Redsand Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 May I proudly present the newest addition to the family ....a mint 13' H535 in a antique natural finish, the fella I adopted her from had her fitted at 225 with a Seth Lover in the neck and a SD 59' at the bridge. She was the 2nd guitar finished on the 14th day of this very year! The neck profile feels to be a D shaped 50's profile that's probably a bit on the thinner end of that spectrum, I didn't realize until now what a true 60's neck my 09' has until I did an A/B comp using the ol' dirty F test! The difference in neck thickness helps place this guitar about 13 ounces heavier than the 09'. The current set-up came with flat-round D'Adderio 12's with medium action providing a very, very pleasant feel for a "mostly-pickless" player like myself. The tonality is to be expected from any H535... deep and warm to complex and nasty!! I was initially curious as to why the SD 59' was in the bridge and not the Seth but was quickly schooled on how "pleasantly ornery" the 59' became when pushed a bit! Sounds freakin mean, like a hungry hobo kind of mean!! I'm definitely going to get an opportunity to hone some controlled feedback skills with this one....long story short, I'm EXTREMELY PLEASED with this guitar and really look forward to bonding with her! Once again, my hat goes of to the fine men and woman of Heritage Guitar!!!! I've gotta say that the "hand-written" serial number is a bit hard to get excited about......It's just kind of bizarre to me that Marv and Crew would produce such a supremely built instrument only to seeming shave a corner at the very end of the process? I mean... am I missing something here or is this just "an is what it is" kind of thing? UPDATE: I'll get over it quickly!!!
Keith7940236 Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Congratulations, that is a stunning instrument!
Blunote Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Very, very cool! People talk about how versatile Tele's are. But in the Gibson style guitar world, I think the ES335/H535 takes that title. They'll play anything from smooth & jazzy to snarling rock. How does it compare to your other H535?

Just picked it up today, so I'm still doing a lot of A/Bing between the two. The 2 most noticeable differences out of the gate are the moderate difference in neck thickness and the brightness of the SD 59'....I'm really surprised at how edgy it allows the guitar to sound!!
TalismanRich Posted September 22, 2013 Posted September 22, 2013 Very nice. The natural finish is great on a semi. Its almost a tossup between that and the faded cherry for me.
Redsand Posted September 23, 2013 Author Posted September 23, 2013 Thanks everyone....I'm very grateful to own such wonderful instruments!
Hfan Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Congrats, nice find, I'd love to try a fat necked Heritage. When did they quit stamping the sn into the headstock?
Billgelder Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 AC14902 I think this is FredZepp's Video
kidsmoke Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Nice axe! The black pickguards really give them some attitude. Enjoy!
Gitfiddler Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Now that I see it is Marv inking in the hand written serial numbers, I have a question... Wouldn't it be cool if each Heritage had a signature of one of the builders or owners on the back of the headstock also?

Wouldn't it be cool if each Heritage had a signature of one of the builders or owners on the back of the headstock also? I think it's totally in the eye of the beholder, I personally prefer signatures to be designated to paper I.E.- the Heritage sticker inside the guitar but I'm sure plenty of folks would love it on the back of the headstock as well.
bolero Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 wow that's a real looker!! congratulations!! I actually prefer the handwritten serial number...those other ones were impossible to read, and the signature personalizes it IMO
Guest HRB853370 Posted September 24, 2013 Posted September 24, 2013 Nice guitar. So are you going to sell off the other 535? What finish/year/pups is the other one? I am like you, can't quite get used to handwritten serial numbers.

Wouldn't it be cool if each Heritage had a signature of one of the builders or owners on the back of the headstock also? Like others have said, I would prefer to have signatures on the sticker under the pot cover so that I could reserve the back of the headstock for the autograph of a celebrity. ie Ted Nugent, Zakk Wylde, Paul Reed Smith, etc. I am like you, can't quite get used to handwritten serial numbers. PRS USA made guitars have very nice looking serial numbers which looke like they are hand painted but I don't know exactly how they accomplish that look. If I knew, perhaps I would drop the idea into the suggestion box at the factory so that Heritage could emulate that success.

You mean you live in Paul Smith's neck of the woods and don't know him yet by golly? Just give him a call! Maybe he'll answer!

I am like you, can't quite get used to handwritten serial numbers. The other H535 featured in my glamour shotz® is an 09' ALSB w/ Seth's and it is 100% not for sale! Why you ask? LONG STORY SHORT: That guitar was purchased by my wife as a surprise wedding present after coming to the conclusion that "other guys" factory 335's were absurdly over priced. What's still truly amazing to me is that she did the all the market research on her own, complete with a cost analysis report and even a call to the fellas (which was and still is hilarious and adorable to me) at Heritage. I'm objectivialy inclined to believe that I was supremely lucky to find one...INCREDIBLY COOL GAL!!!!
