jamison162 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Has anyone tried any Fralins, particularly the P-92's in an H-150?
111518 Posted September 11, 2008 Posted September 11, 2008 Here's the link to an earlier discussion: http://www.heritageownersclub.com/forums/i...opic,762.0.html (Best I can do, no first hand experience with P-92's, tough this discussion sparked my curiosity about them...)
Millennium Maestro Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 Another h-140 users review. Fralin P92 humbucker sized P90 review... -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I've just spent a week with a set of Fralin P-92's in my Heritage H-140 (Les Paul), and thought I'd share some thoughts on them. Oh, and no affiliation, etc... After browsing humbucker sized single coil p/u's for a long while I decided on the Fralin's, then changed my mind over the cost. I was about to pull the trigger on a new pair of SD Phat Cats when a used set of Fralin P-92's became available to me at a better price than the new SD's, so I jumped on them. The bridge is wound around 9k and the neck is about 8k. with a clean amp they're incredibly open and very responsive. It's not exactly a P-90 sound, but definitely in that ballpark. Being a Strat player for years I really missed the spank with my Heritage loaded with humbuckers. Now it's got all the single coil type spank and (more importantly) character with more girth. As good as the pickups each sound alone when clean, when you use them together they give up a great "full" sound without muffing out or becoming indistinct. With an overdriven amp, the p/u's are, again, very articulate and clear but full of character. They have a real "Dave Grissom meets Andy York" sound at times. They also LOVE pedals. Best of all... they're DEAD quiet. If you're looking for a humbucker sized pickup with a P-90 type sound, look no further. I would have missed a great set of pickups had I not stumbled onto these used ones a great price, but I'd buy new in a heartbeat after playing them. __________________ http://www.joecurtisband.com/ Overheard at a gig... GuitArtMan Posted September 12, 2008 Posted September 12, 2008 I put a set in this: http://home.san.rr.com/renkluaf/60ab_3.jpg[/img] and absolutely love them. Gorgeous P90 tone clean, crunch or scream and dead quiet. They are as quiet as, if not quieter than, traditional humbuckers. The tone in definitely in the P90 realm, but have a little bit of their own thing going on. But then there is variation the P90 world just like there is in the humbucker world. Do Lollars, Fralins, Bare Knuckle, Rio Grande, Harmonic Design, Voodoo, Gibson, etc. all sound the same? Of course not, but we recognize the sound as P90. Well to me the P92s have that familar P90 tone, without the hum. Great pickup. PS The guitar is a Don Grosh Single Cut. Probably the finest set neck 24 3/4" scale guitar I've owned. She sings, she purs, she screams and she don't talk back!

GuitArtMan Posted September 13, 2008 Posted September 13, 2008 What's the output specs on yours Gman? Neck & Bridge? Oh gawd I knew you would ask that. I "think" the neck is 8K and the bridge is 10K but I really can't remember.
