SlappyTappy Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Swapping pickups in my H150 has always been a most arduous task. Especially on the bridge pickup, feeding the wire into the cavity is like putting it into another dimension. It takes about 50 attempts to get the wire to appear in the control cavity. Am I doing something wrong?
Thundersteel Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Use a stiff piece of wire or straightened out paper clip. Attach the pup leads to the stiff wire or clip, and feed those through first. Once the end of the wire or clip begins to show, continue pulling until the pup leads are through.
davesultra Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 I've tied dental floss around the leads. I've had much success using this method on both solid and non-solid bodies.
Hfan Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 +1 on the wire trick. Galvanized wire is great for lots of stuff. I always have a few rolls of various thicknesses in the garage. Galvanized wire would work great for this
SlappyTappy Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 Thanks so much! A thick paper clip did just the trick!
HANGAR18 Posted October 11, 2013 Posted October 11, 2013 I've tried taping a piece of string to the old pickup wires before pulling them out of the guitar which then feeds the string into the pickup cavities and then tape the new pickup wires to those strings which allows me to pull the strings out, feeding the new pickup wires through the body.
yoslate Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Lay a trail of breadcrumbs, when you pull them out....
AP515 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Cut the leads off the old pup and then just solder the new pup onto those leads. Dont have to even take the cover off the control cavity. You know I'm kidding right?!
