volhoo Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Hey Guys - I did a search and could find much info about the specifics of this. Does anyone have any pictures or information about how Heritage actually reduces the weight of there LW guitars? I am hoping to see some pictures of H150's being built that show the bodies drilled or chambered or routed out to reduce weight. Gibson does a good job of explaining their technique here: http://www2.gibson.com/News-Lifestyle/Features/en-us/weight-relief-gibson-les-paul-guitars-0615-2012.aspx I have a custom H150 CM LW being built as I write this that I am hoping to see a picture of soon - please Ren. I am getting a factory installed Bigsby on it and have asked them to chamber the body to keep the weight down. Cheers. Hopefully it will look like this - yes it will have a H157 pick guard. -
volhoo Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 Oh - OK, that's great Fred - thanks much. That is exactly what I was looking for. Cheers. -
volhoo Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 BTW - couldn't figure out how to edit the original post - couldn't find - instead of could find.
FredZepp Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 I remember another pic... but I can't find it right now. That looks like it's going to be an awesome 150 that you've spec'd out.... We'd love to see pics when you can..
Thundersteel Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Unfortunately, there is a flaw to their design. To mount the plastic backplate, there are four small pieces of wood shaped in a half-circle, but only about 1/8" or so thick. My LW I had several years ago had two of these pieces broken when I bought it new (thanks, Graham). They need to do it how Guild built their Bluesbirds: have the half-circles be as thick as the entire mahogany base, instead of the thin pieces they have now.

I hadn't heard of others with LW having this issue... I wonder if some are done differently...?
Thundersteel Posted October 23, 2013 Posted October 23, 2013 This is what I'm talking about. This is from a Marty Grass post, so I hope he doesn't mind me using it here: Notice how thin the "mounting ears" are. On mine, the top one (the one on the right in this picture) was completely broken off, and the bottom one was about ready to. On Bluesbirds, they really don't have "ears," and I feel their design is much better. It's too bad Heritage doesn't do it this way. Here's a Bluesbird control cavity:
volhoo Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Got a couple of shots from Ren this morning - I'm getting pretty excited - should be arriving here at home around Thanksgiving. - -
FredZepp Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Wow... That looks great, both front and back. I think that if I was to do a custom order right now, it would likely be a LW too. Made by the pro's in Kalamazoo, yet with a bit less weight. Duncan pickups?
HANGAR18 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I'd be willing to bet that guitar will be light as a feather. Beautiful!
tulk1 Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 Interesting pattern on the top. Gonna be another stunner!!
volhoo Posted November 7, 2013 Author Posted November 7, 2013 Thanks guy's - yeah I had it weight relieved because I'm having a Bigsby installed and trying to keep it within reason. I'm a little concerned about the color, I had ordered OSB to match my 535, seems very light. Looks great, just not what I expected. Here is a shot of my H-535 that I was hoping to match. Here is the info on what I ordered: Heritage H-150 CM (Curly Maple) LW (Chambered) OSB (Original Style Sunburst) Body: Curly Maple top, Honduran Mahogany back and sides with cream binding Finish: Nitrocellulose laquer Neck: One piece honduran mahogany Long neck tenon option CTS control Pots w/ Spraque caps Fingerboard: Rosewood (dark colored, well grained) Fretboard Inlays: mother of pearl “Trapezoidal, or crown” inlays. Bound Headstock Inlayed M. O. Pearl “The Heritage” logo on Headstock Bigsby Graphtech Nut Schaller Roller Bridge Grover Rotomatic Tuners H157 style pickguard – Trans Black with cream binding Seth Lover Pick-Ups Black Pick-Up Rings PLEK’d (Jay Wolfe) The Heritage Hard Case – size to fit Bigsby. -

Guest HRB853370 Posted November 8, 2013 Posted November 8, 2013 Very nice! My LW has a bound headstock too. Here are some shots of it!
HANGAR18 Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 I never knew they did bound headstocks on H150's until very recently.
RhoadsScholar Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 something to look forward to for sure..... She'll be a nice one once she is all dressed up
