I never knew they did bound headstocks on H150's until very recently.

Remember Dan, you can get anything you want! (just like Burger King)

This is what I'm talking about. This is from a Marty Grass post, so I hope he doesn't mind me using it here: Notice how thin the "mounting ears" are. On mine, the top one (the one on the right in this picture) was completely broken off, and the bottom one was about ready to. On Bluesbirds, they really don't have "ears," and I feel their design is much better. It's too bad Heritage doesn't do it this way. gallery_2472_317_170387_zpsf9f7775c.jpg

Here's a Bluesbird control cavity:

That would take quite a bit of force on the plate to snap off that wood. But I could see it happening. A couple of L brackets and some Gorilla Glue would fix her.

Mine were broken where the screw holes were. It seems the screws were overtightened, causing the wood to split. It's too bad it wasn't disclosed to me before I bought it!

Someone was careless.

There's not a huge difference between the Millie and the H150 LW.

Both have a maple cap with similar cavities. Yes, there are differences. They are more similar than different.

Still waiting for word from Heritage or Jay Wolfe on my H-150.

I was originally told (8/26/13) that it would take 9 to 10 weeks to complete - this is week 22!

It's got to be getting close (I keep telling myself).

:)

I would recommend that in the future, they estimate custom work to take 6 months to complete - then, if it's done sooner - it's all good.

Saying it will take 10 weeks and having it take more than twice that (and still counting) is less than pleasurable.

God put me on this earth to learn patience - how am I doing?

:)

Surprised they told you 10 weeks! One HOC member had his custom order in production for 15 weeks! Like you said, always better to under promise and over deliver!

Oh oh, the Maryland Mafia is involved...........

Correction - I just checked my notes and they did originally quote 10 to 15 weeks for this process.

Maybe it's not THAT late after all.

Would have been a nice Christmas present to myself though.

Hopefully I'll have it by New Years.

Even with that knowledge, I'll bet it's still tough to wait.

I'm still jealous that you have one coming - if that's any consolation.

If you wish to cancel it, I will take it!! :icon_rendeer:

The "ears" on the cavity cover are probably because they use the same routing template for the control cavity regardless of whether it is a standard h150 or a LW version. If you look at the bluesbird, their control cavity is a rectangle, so it naturally the control cavity cover recess would match. I don't think it's a really flawed design, it just means you've gotta be careful when screwing down the cavity cover, or you could crack it.

Of course, if they did something nifty like using brass bushings instead, that would eliminate the whole issue.

OK, I just got an email from Jay Wolfe, and my H-150 is in his shop finally! YAY!

Here are a couple of shots he sent me. The last image, the one with the logo, is what I photochopped together and was hoping it would look like.

What do you think?

I will put together a proper NGD post when it shows up at my house later this week.

That's a nice piece of maple on top - I like that figure in the wood.
