DetroitBlues Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 While I love the single coil tones, I hate the noise. So if you had that problem, what would you do? Get Noiseless pickups? Get a Noise Gate/Suppressor? Keep in mind the chime of single coils and the quack of the 2nd and 4th position....
DetroitBlues Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 How come I never notice it with many other single coil axe slingers...
tulk1 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 Rarely can you hear the hiss or whatever once any others start playing. Either of the options you've listed will result in a loss of that very transient that makes the SCs so appealing. Unless you're playing under a massive florescent light, there is always a sweet spot you can turn to minimize the effect. Hence, just live with it.
fxdx99 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 reverse wind the middle so 2 'n 4 are quiet. Use humbuckers in clubs that are too noisy.
koula901 Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I have a very bad noise problem in my home, so noiseless are necessary. I do have the mim tele, and the middle pup is reverse wound, so, when the noise gets to me, I can use positions 2 and 4. However, I know where the sweet spot is, and just turn towards mecca. Most of the time though, I'm using the Fralin split blades (as I'm sure you've heard me say many times before) and I can use every position without worry and they sound absolutely heavenly. Got the blues hots in the tele for a darker sound and the hot classic split blades in the G&L. I don't think you lose the quack.
Vanschoyck Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I thought that noise was supposed to be there.
H Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I thought that noise was supposed to be there. The noise I make when I play is much worse than the hum....

Or as Tulk says live with it!
PunkKitty Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I use noiseless single coils from Wilde (Bill Lawrence).
DetroitBlues Posted November 3, 2013 Author Posted November 3, 2013 Well I have been thinking about the Z Coils as Anthony Staffuer seems to think they are awesome... But they are $300 a set...
PunkKitty Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 That's why I buy my single coils from Wilde. Bill knows what he's doing. And he doesn't charge an arm and a leg.
rockabilly69 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 I just live with it! +1 I use a volume pedal in between songs to keep the racket down. I also try to find the quietest place on the stage, as pointing you your guitar just a few inches in a different direction can make a world of difference.
DetroitBlues Posted November 4, 2013 Author Posted November 4, 2013 I guess when it comes to recording, it's awful, but on stage it's not always a problem, but some stages are so small, moving around isn't an option. Having a wireless does open the possibilities...
pressure Posted November 4, 2013 Posted November 4, 2013 I heard Kent Armstrong is working on a solution to 60 hz hum. If that happens it will be a fix for all single coils. It seems that if you could get the pickup signal and reverse it then feed it back to the original signal, hum might be canceled. Much like the noise cancelation system Lotus Cars Ltd. came up with, which is now used by everybody.

I Love that Chime as well!! My American Standard is getting a set of Kinman Blues Noiseless ASAP! I tried a suppressor,.. Just didn't work for me!!

I was on the Zexcoil tour set list over at TGP - they are freakin' great pickups. Bought a set for my Tuttle Classuic S. I just have to get off of my butt and wire them up.

GuitArtMan Posted November 7, 2013 Posted November 7, 2013 I built up a custom set with the Vintage Single 5 neck, Vintage Single 2 middle and Juicy Bucker Bridge.
DetroitBlues Posted November 15, 2013 Author Posted November 15, 2013 I built up a custom set with the Vintage Single 5 neck, Vintage Single 2 middle and Juicy Bucker Bridge. So are they all their cracked up to be? All Strat like and no hum?
koula901 Posted November 15, 2013 Posted November 15, 2013 Detroit You need to hear some split singles. There are websites where you can hear demonstrations of them.
