bolero Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 so this supro ( model 1624T ) I have is supposedly the one Page used on the early LZ recordings...I've never tried my tele into it, so today I did a quick recording to see how it sounded I haven't played this stuff in ages, so it's sloppy as all get-out.....try to ignore the playing & listen to the tone, I am wondering what everyone else thinks used a CAD E100 close, and an sm57 about 4 feet away. these are panned hard left/right, so if you want to hear each individually in mono just pan your speakers --->keep in mind the first two albums were treated with liberal amounts of EMT plate reverb, to flesh everything out. unfortunately I haven't got room in my house for one of those!! this is into channel 1, full volume, full tone control https://soundcloud.com/roofleaks/supro-tele this is with the ch1 & ch2 inputs bridged, , full volume, full tone control https://soundcloud.com/roofleaks/supro-tele-bridged I think Page didn't bridge the channels ( even though the leads sound thicker bridged ) because I'm nealry 100% sure he used a fuzz as well....next time I will dig out my rangemaster clone & stick it in there, too
FredZepp Posted November 2, 2013 Posted November 2, 2013 I love the tone out of those old Supros. And the way they do that gnarly tone makes almost any guitar that you want to plug in , sound good. There are certainly some early Zep tones in those examples.... sounds nice on the lead work also..
bolero Posted November 2, 2013 Author Posted November 2, 2013 for comparison, here is my H157 with Throbak SLE101's but I aimed the sm57 away from the amp this time, up into a corner for room ambience https://soundcloud.com/roofleaks/supro-157-2mics ..and now I am officially sick of recycling those 4 zep riffs!! although they get better as the recordings progress
rockabilly69 Posted November 3, 2013 Posted November 3, 2013 Very Zep like. I love those little Supros:)
