It's the one I won off the bay.  The body and neck are actually in great shape.  The seller just had very high resolution photos.  That made me happy.  Unfortunately I can't play it right now.  The pickup selector switch is destroyed.  It's pushed in and totally broken.  Only the neck pickup works and that is wired to a volume.  That's it.  Nothing else is hooked up.  The wires and the pots are a rats nest!  Half solder/half electrical tape?

On the cool side though: It has an ebony board with dots.  Is that odd?  The sticker says H-150 CM, color Amber, built for JW Ussrry (signed by this guy also) dated 05-15-97. Anyone know who that is?  Obviously a custom order or something.  The neck pickup is actually a Schaller, not a duncan design.  The frets aren't that bad.  They need to be leveled and dressed.

I ordered some Rio Grande pickups, tonepros bridge and tail piece, amber switch tip, cream pickup rings.  Now I need to get a new selector switch.  I'm going to give the electronics a go and see what happens.  I'll get my own pictures up later.  Here's the link as a reminder for now.  Peace out :-*

shook, I've got my eye on what you'll do with that one!  You may remember I had a bit to say about wanting it myself, a '59-150 don't-worry-about-it gigging guitar was my plan for that one.  By the way, you now own a guitar built for, and apparently owned by, Heritage artist John Ussery.  Google him and you'll find plenty.  He was an Austin blues guy who played with, among others, John Lee Hooker and Delaney Bramlett.  Sort of cool, hunh?  Keep us posted on the stick's progress.  Glad you've rescued that one!  Good luck.

I am glad it worked out for you, shook! A "working" guitar with provenance...can't beat that for the price! Get it back to original wiring and let 'er rip!  Oh, and:

So thanks for the info.  I googled Ussery and I think that's pretty cool.  Makes me like this thing even more!  I'll post some pics this weekend.

I'm looking forward to watching your project evolve, shook!  Good luck with it!  A lot of gorgeous, pristine guitars here on the HOC, but I'm a big fan of working players, warts and all, too!

I looked at that too.  Dick's right.  Mine has dots.  On that note.... Do you guys think it would be a big deal if I had trap inlays installed in the near future.  I just don't like dots.  I know it would cost some dough.  I think it would be worth it to me though.  Just wondering?  I wouldn't think it would matter.  The electronics have obviously been change out several times by someone.  I think the inlays would complement the guitar.

Just guessing here, as I've never done fretboard work. But I recall when I had my Stambaugh Tele made I mentioned maybe adding different inlays later on. Big Please Don't! from Chris. You'd have to remove the frets, reroute for the new inlays. Then you have to level the inlay, reradius the board, etc. So, back to the guessing - it might be easier to pull the fretboard and put on a new one that has the inlays on it already.

i also once inquired about having traps put on my 170...it was [glow=red,2,300]VERY EXPENSIVE[/glow]

new fretboard is the way to go

I might not go that route then with the inlays.  I don't know yet.  Here are a few pics I took for now.

I'll post more as soon as I start replacing parts.  This thing has some really cool flame on it in different lights.

Wow!  Shook, that top is even better than I thought!  VERY '59!!!  Very similar indeed to a '59 once owned by a dear friend of mine, a '59 now in the hands of a Japanese collector.  The last time it changed hands was for truly ridiculous $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$!  I didn't think you should trifle with the fretboard.  After seeing the pics, I'd have to consider a board with traps pretty seriously for that one.  I just really like that top!!

Looks to me all it needs is some hardware, strings and bit of elbow grease. And it's ready to rock AND roll! Forget the traps. Thats a player right there.

Thanks Yoslate.  It's pretty nice.  I'm going to check on the fretboard possibility.  I might just have to get used to the dots.  It's really a great looking guitar.

Well Brent got his beater 150.

Looks like in 3 weeks E-bay will have it's first Relic Heritage 150 for sale!!! :P

My bad, I thought this was Brent's post about his project guitar.

This one has a chance to stick around then. ;D :P

You can always pull the dots and replace them with something else. I have an Ibanez 7620 7 string that had little silver dots int he board, and I replaced them with dots made of purple heart. Looks much better now :D If you replaced them with little maple dots, it should be cheap enough, and it would go nicely with the top.

Here's a pic of the Ibby, to give you an idea. Much nicer than the silver plastic dots that were in it, and I think it came to 35 bucks at the time because a fret job wasn't necessary (which it would be for the crowns I believe).

i'm not a big fan of dots either....especially on a Heritage (i think traps and blocks just look sssoooo right)

+1

I ordered a PRS with dots. Its solid black and Ive chucked a SD JB and 59 in it. Anti PRS in so many ways.

Its a true working gig pig. No thrills but extremely functional. It can take a few knocks and it doesnt bother me to much.

Isnt that why you got a beat up 150?

Tulk.  You pretty much hit it on the head!  It's turning out really cool so far.  I just need to add a few more things before I add the pics.  I just LOVE traps/blocks on single cut guitars.  All the stuff I'm doing to it is helping with the look though.  Hopefully I can get it all done today and show you guys ;D
