To Buy or Not to Buy

Got an opportunity to buy a 2011 H535 at a good price but noticed it's got a bad ding on the headstock. A little concerned as wondering how hard it was hit to sustain that and also repair cost. I would have it repaired as it does impair a beautiful guitar! Any advice would be very welcome!post-17490-0-97903100-1383660051_thumb.jpg

See f you can get an honest answer about how it happened. If it was not a major fall and you are getting a good price due to that ding, and you otherwise vibe with it, I would not worry about the cosmetic issue. My favorite guitars all have some minor nicks and scrapes.

Cool guys....yeah if it's not done any other damage I'll go for it. Thanks

Look for finish cracks, front and back of the headstock, around the nut. Also, look for finish cracks at the heel, where the neck joins the body. I'll bet there aren't any. That's not a bad ding at all. An competent luthier can clean that up pretty simply.

This was my guitar orginially, I purchased it brand new. This mark happend when I was setting the guitar down and it hit my bed post. I really could not believe that it happend because it was such a light hit. It is only in a nick in the clear coat and a little of the stain. I smoothed it out with some very light wet sand paper. There are absolutel no cracks in the wood. It is a fantastic guitar!

This is mine. Im careless.

But these points chip with even the lightest of bumps.

You would cringe if you saw the front of the headstock.

Those dings are going to happen if the guitar gets played at all. No structural damage confirmed by H525. I say go for it. And if it's your first, then Welcome to the HoC!!

Doesnt look to be structural from the photo and I'm sure a competant repairer should be able to

do a minor refinish at not too great a cost.Plus there is nothing worse than putting the first scuff

on a mint guitar so you wouldn't have that heartache!

If it's a good price, I'd be all over it! Provided there is no structural damage of course you. Every good guitar needs a ding or 15!

Dings like that are bound to happen, I would't sweat it!

If you think that little headstock scuff is a DING, you should see my 150. It's a war horse bordering on looking relic'd! But man it's got the tone!!

My prospect came like that new. I never give it a thought... That 535 is pre loved if it hit a bedpost

A bedpost? What man would want her now!

525..do you always sleep with your Heritages? I love mine but there has to be a limit...

op I say go for it..535s are sweet.

You might want to check the imput jack and under the truss rod cover.

Wow thanks for support guys and especially to Heritage 525 for letting me know how it happened. When I actually saw the physical guitar rather than the photos I immediately went for it and bought it. It really was negligible. It's now been set up by a local luthier here in San Jose. Just new strings and the 6th was buzzing all the way up the fretboard. Should get it back Saturday!

I'll post some pics then. How do I post big pics by the way? I'm new here :-)

Thanks again guys.

One way is to get yourself a Photobucket account. Upload your pics to that and you'll see an option to copy an IMG link. Paste that link into your post and Robert is your mother's brother :)
