semi dilema

now let me preface this with the indisputable fact that i have lost my mind many moons ago.

i now have two prospects, one with HRWs and the other full hollow.

also a millie sae and a yamaha sas1500.

get the drift, i have a thing for semis.

in terms of tone,to me the prospect w/ HRWs is the king.

but i love the feel of the yamaha (the size, the neck etc) so much i have invested in lollar imperials and have them installed.

it did improve to some extent but not enough.

i really want to make the yamaha the #1.

here lies the dilema.

i have another set of HRWS.

if i go the expense etc to have them installed, will they sound similar to the ones in the prospect?

your thoughts would be appreciated.

My uneducated answer is.. It depends.. Is the Yamaha laminated or solid wood? That affects tone quite a bit.. How about body size and thickness? There are a lot of variables.. If it won't break the bank, put the pickups in and see.. My 2 cents!!

the yamaha is laminated.

it has been suggested to me that not all HRWs sound the same.

Well if you are really curious, put the HRW's in and give em a shot!! Just a suggestion..

I can't tell you the answer from direct piece by piece experience, but I would go ahead and put them in since you're thinking about doing it. When I've changed pickups in any guitar it has changed the character of the instrument. And your question was would they sound "similar," and I imagine they most definitely would, all else remaining equal. Once done, I would record a little bit of each and see if I could hear a difference, and my money would be on subtle if any. I wouldn't try and judge the sound while I was playing, not if I wanted a realistic answer.

I'm gonna have to cry B.S.

With out pictures of said prospects, I'm gonna guess your just some wannabe, a high school kid trolling for heritage excitement!

That's my opinion and until we see pictures, in sticking to it!

well, i preferred the floating block prospect with the HRWs to the hollow with the P90s.

just a mater of preference of the tone.

but i have loved the feel of the yamaha since i got it.

i first had the original pups swapped out to lollar imperials.

better but not nearly what i liked about the HRWs.

then i got lucky with another pair of HRWs.

another pup swap of the yamaha and eureka

the best of both worlds

they do not sound the same but much more similar..

its the little things that make me happy, happy. :icon_sunny:
