The Sweet 16 is an almond sunburst. The SKB was ordered with a little extra red to mimic the Super 400 on the cover of the 1966 Gibson catalog. The difference is subtle but apparent when they are side by side.

Gibson Super 400 definitely has some red in the burst :

Heritages.

I can see the subtle red tones especially in the back. It's hard to capture the reds correctly with a camera. Decent natural light and no flash usually works for me. What a super Super. They are my favorite archtop from the Kzoo boys.

How's it sound wise compared to the others you've had?

Beautiful. Both. Looking forward to the a/b with the sixteen. Acoustic and through the overdrive pedal into the marshal double stack.

Here are all of the pix. Number 15 is a video of it.

The Sweet 16 has La Bella Flatwound 15s on it. They are decidedly dull but loud, which is exactly as expected.

The SKB has TI Benson 14s, which have more sustain and are brighter.

Can't make a fair comparison acoustically. I'll bet with enough overdrive they sound pretty much the same.

The photobucket shots really do show the red shading. It's in between almond and cherry. Very cool.

And right next to lemon, lime and apple!

Now I'm hungry.

Wow! Makes me miss the Super Eagle I sold.

Marty, I want to hear how that cutaway feels. Given the obvious improvement in upper fret access, if it still sits in your lap properly then I think it might be pretty close to perfect.

The upper fret access is a little better than with a Venetian cutaway. I don't think the cutaway affects how it fits in my lap, and I always use a strap.

The strap button placement does make a difference, at least to me.

Here's the spectrum. They all work but position the guitar slightly differently. It takes a few minutes to adjust to how the guitar hangs.

It's odd for me to play an archtop on a strap. All those years i spent playing planks and I always played on a strap, no mater what. now that I'm finally back playing archtops, the only way I've been able to get comfortable is seated and using a foot rest.

I gave a Venetian and a Florentine. The contrast in access to the upper frets is something I've found an interesting. I have a couple of chords that I use that voice to the 17th fret. I absolutely can't get my hand high enough with the Venetian but with less meat in the bottom curve of the Florentine cutaway it's not a problem at all. With the cut on the Burrell, it looks like it should actually be even easier than with the typical Folrentine.

It says "Custom Finish".

Thanks, Marty. I guess if I'm ever able to order a SKB in that colour I'll have to send them a picture.
