Fake H140 ?

Hello to everybody

Interesting in joining the group (thanks Brent from switching to HFC to HOC), I would like to know if there are many fake H140 around.

I found some black models in the US but also discovered someone was producing a fake model in China...

Is it frequent ? From faraway (with pictures only), how to make the difference....With guitars in hands, I am sure I will notice the difference (and with my ears too)

Thanks a lot for your info, best regards, Gilles

There's a company called "Prestige" that is in Canada. They import guitars from China and call them "Prestige Heritage".

I don't think anyone would produce a faux H140 and try to pass it off as an original Heritage; but you never know.

There are Chinese fakes of H-140's that list for $289 new, but often the photos are of a real Heritage.

I was thinking of the one available on gbase...

In fact, I only discovered fake 140 in black/white so I was a bit disappointed..

On my interest is a H140, non florentine cutaway (second edition), preferably CM...different finish possible.

No crack/repair as always

PUs indifferent /non stock possible

possible http://www.heritageguitar.com/models/h140_specs.html ...

Fake apparently

The one on gbase

Furthermore, this one is 140M instead of CM

Thanks for the infos..

This one would have been great...but too late for me :(

That wasn't actually an H140. In 1996 the 140 had a Florentine cutaway - sharp point. That looks more like a 150 Special, or 150P. Either way that would have been a good price for that guitar. Sorry you missed it. If you're set on a 140, you may have a bit of a wait. But if you could go H150 (the 140's big brother), why not look in the For Sale section here?

Understood. You have to get what you want. In fact, if I ever do order another custom Heritage, it will be an H140. Good luck in your search. And don't give up on our for sale section. BTW, the H150 Special and H150P would both be lighter weight than a standard H150. And there is such a beast as an H150LW (light weight) - chambered.

Just to add my .02 I've had a H140 and several H150s and the H140 was actually heavier than the lightest H150 I had. Funnily the H140 was actually 4kg which was pretty much as heave as the average Gibson LP nowadays I think...

Both of those links have only one small photo, so there's not much for you to see anyhow. Both photos appear to be the real thing, a common practice for made in China fakes to use real photos. You don't get the one in the picture.

There are all kinds of red flags on the made in China one, in the descriptions. The gbase one looks fine.

Common signs on a fake are the 3 screw truss rod cover, the scarf neck joint ( see pic of back of neck above ), a bridge with flat head screw to adjust on top, and a slightly wrong headstock shape ( which can be hard to spot in pics ). Although they change the details often.

There are very few fake Heritages out there and the best advice is to buy from a trustworthy source.

I've always wondered about that one. Why is it that counterfeiters can't use truss rod covers with two screw holes? It's something pretty obvious you'd think they'd get right... Or is it difficult to make a truss rod cavity with an overhang for a single screw?

Wow, look at the placement of the tuners...way off. Funny, I was looking at LP Traditionals recently and some of them had a top grain that was vertical and horizontal and very tightly spaced. Not quite as extreme as this example but similar. I had never seen grain like that before.

Yep, my H140 has the sharp point cutaway. :)

This one is a real Heritage.... and it's an unusual one that only has the serial number in the control cavity, so no stamp on the back of the headstock.

Yeah, I don't know the answer to why.. but they are making some now with the 2 screw TRC, so it's not always there as an sign of a fake.

Fred, that is an obvious fake. Please pack it up and ship it to me so I can turn it in to US Customs Agents and save you the embarrassment of an imminent arrest. :icon_pirat:

Damn, that is a sweet 140!!

Wow, ugly fake at that!

MAN!! You got that right!!

I've seen these on the net and they are nothing like the Heritage guitars we own and I don't think that they are trying to rip the Heritage brand off in any way. The only thing they have in common is that they make single cut guitars. I came close to buying one.

It's a beautiful guitar that is vastly improved by not having the stinger on the back.
