Griffocaster Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 just acquired a H535 and the serial number tells me it is was made in 1999. Great guitar but it has been modified from the standard. The bridge, tail piece and the volume/tone control knobs are not original parts. Still sounds good but it obviously makes one think that other things have been altered like tone pots etc. I have searched for a complete a spec of what is supposed to be on the guitar when made but have not found anything. Does anyone have a complete component spec list ? I think I already know the answer to this question but if I want to replace the hardware will standard Gibson gear do the job. Has anyone got any recommendations?
H Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 Hi, I'm in Essex - welcome to the HOC Schaller roller bridge, Schaller top-loading tailpiece. Schaller Golden 50s humbuckers in Schaller rings, Grover Rotomatic tuners. Pots most likely CTS 500K, tone caps are .022, a yellow radial cap, probably Mallory. Let's see a pic of yours
H Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 And yes, Gibson parts will fit as will these: Gotoh GE101 and GE103 set Tonepros LPNM04 set (T3BP bridge, T1ZS tailpiece) There are others, notably a set by Faber. Remember: Metric bridge, Imperial tailpiece
H Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 This is how my 535 looked before I went TonePros and Seymour Duncan Phat Cats.
Griffocaster Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Thanks very much. It's the bridge that needs replacing. Thanks for the info
bobmeyrick Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Greetings from Nottingham! One of the things I quite like about Heritage owners is that they're not hung up on keeping guitars all original and aren't afraid to change pickups and hardware to suit their individual tastes if necessary. I haven't changed my 535, which I bought new and came with HRW pickups and Tonepros bridge and tailpiece. I don't think it could be improved. However I have a 150CM VSB (Vintage Sunburst) which had the Schaller hardware and Seymour Duncan 59s when I bought it (thanks eBay!). The first change I made was to replace the SD 59s with Bare Knuckle Stormy Mondays. Next I replaced the tailpiece with a secondhand Gibson stopbar (eBay again) while keeping the roller bridge. The most recent change is replacing the bridge and tailpiece with a Tonepros set (eBay yet again!). These changes were done gradually and have made a very good guitar into a great one (to my taste, at least).
