I'm spoiled

Beautiful and skillful work. The tone was very good and even the reverb was good on that SS unit as well. But think of what that same session would have sounded like running through a Twin. Now don't get me wrong, I like SS amps. They have their place. I have one that I like alot. But the sag from tubes yields a voice like response that is hard for transistors to equal. I use my SS amp when I need quality sound at low volumes, easy set up, or light weight moving around.

Thanks for the comments. I had a twin - sold it. I have two tube amps currently, a boogie and a fender deluxe reverb. My Evans is very quiet (no extra noises and not much hiss.)

I am in no way the best example. You should check out Pat Martino and some of the guys that use the Claris amps, which are like compact PA heads really. I tried one and I think it's a little too clean for me, but I've heard them sing for others.

I love the tube amps when I want to hear more amp sound, and the ss when I want to hear a purer guitar. And it's not a coincidence that all three of my amps weigh about the same, around the high 30's pound wise. Yeah, I'm too old to pick up anything over 50 pounds and try and wrestle it into my car!

If I had a point to make, I think it was that you can get good sounding amps of both designs if you look for and buy good stuff. Cheap sometimes is just cheap.

My first try at posting Sound Cloud so if it doesn't work ignore this post. This was done with a ss amp; see it you think it lacks "tone."

hey that was some fantastic playing!! loved it

I think you demonstrated your point very well. I enjoyed listening.

And I agree, the choice of a SS or tube amp depends entirely on whether you're interested in hearing the guitar itself, or the amp. An Evans has been highly recommended around here for clean instrumentals.

How do they sound with acoustic/piezo guitars plugged in?

I only used it once that way for a show. It worked very well I thought, very natural sounding. I was using a Taylor 710 with an active piezo, no controls. I would use it again that way if need be.
