In the interest of full disclosure, I did make a X-mas closeout gear purchase, and, it's pretty neat.

Gallien Krueger Light Weight New Bass Amp Day

If you remember my picture of the little perch, accessed by a ladder, from which my student band is playing hockey games, you might understand why I've been on the lookout for a light weight bass amp. I would love to have the new alum. cab Epifani combo that is getting rave reviews, but at 1,600.00+, not going to happen.

So, from digging around, high on my actually-possible list was the Gallian Krueger MB line. Sweetwater had a MB1-12 II demo on sale $570 list, usual street $400, listed on the site for $350, a discussion with my Sweetwater "guy" got it down to $320.

Came last week. When I first got the box, I was afraid the thing was not as light as I hoped, but the packaging and enclosed catelog accounted for 30% of the weight. It seems to be a cool little amp. Sounds good, has a line out with pre/post eq, --200watts and a 12, all at less than 30lbs. We've been wrestling the school's SWR workingman head and a 410 cab up that ladder --worth 3 bills to save my back that exercise, and, for occassions when we can use a larger bass rig, I think the amp will also make a decent keyboard amp --school owns a couple of the smallest Rolands: 40 watts with a 10." I can say from experience, these will not stay clean at the volume necessary to be heard in a 14 piece band,

And, I guess I just assumed, since this amp is almost at the bottom of the GK product line, that it would be made in China, but, turns out to be assembled in USA. Only one downside ... no tootsie rolls in my Sweetwater candy. Maybe that's what happens when you talk your guy down in price.

I just received some tubes from Sweetwater on Friday. No candy in mine either. But I did make the purchase through their ebay store.

I got some candy, just no tootsie rolls, my favorite. Maybe there are thresholds: less than ?, no candy, less that $350, no tootsie rolls.

I do think Sweetwater does a good job --demo came with their 2 year warrantee, which I trust, part of the reason I'm happy with the deal.

I guess they put the toostie rolls in my box. I got two, along with the Laffy Taffy!

Your title made me think of this character in old Superman comics... little weird guy that needed to buy a vowel... forget the name.

Congrats - nice amp and cool early Xmas present even if the tootsie rolls weren't in the box.

...or maybe one of the Whoville toys targeted by the Grinch. I think even Cindy Lou could carry it.

Thanks, Randy. Not the greatest bass amp I own, but, I hope it will be a reliable tool for a job, and, unlikely to get one with warranty for less.
