jimsoloway Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 The specs are now finalized and the custom parts ship to Heritage later today. Then I can just sit back and wait. Model H575 Scale Length 25.5” 59 Roundback Neck Profile (C shape, .86 at first fret, .96 at octave) 6150 Jumbo Frets No Pick Guard Neck Humbucker Only DiMarzio 36th Anniversary PAF pickup Four point pickup mounting Old Style Burst finish HipShot locking tuners Upgraded pots and wiring Thomastik Infeld Swing Series 12 gauge strings Input jack side mounted at the approximate mid point of the curve of the treble side lower bout. X - Bracing No strap buttons Outer edge control mounting Inlaid “The Heritage” on the peg head The guitar is to setup for C# standard tuning (i.e. tuned down three semitones, from low to high C#, F#, B, E, G#, C#) About the woods …. My preference in rosewood for the fingerboard is something that shows a lot of color and grain pattern. I like the natural look of rosewood and I’m not trying to make it look more like ebony. As to the wood for the body, I’m most concerned with the musical and structural qualities. Pick what you think is best for player and if that means less figure or inconsistent figure, I don’t mind that at all. When sanding the neck, I don’t care about it being precisely the measurements in my specs but if it’s going to be off, I would much prefer it to be larger rather than smaller. That applies both to the thickness and the width. I like a handful. As for the shape, I do prefer it to be very round. Anything not in the specs is to be standard 575
bsck1 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 What a great list. When it makes it's way to you and you hold it, it will be everything and more than you ever wanted. Congratulations and best of luck with the anticipation dance.
Keith7940236 Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 You are going to love it, good choice on the scale.
Steiner Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 YOU'RE ordering a Heritage? Whoa... That speaks volumes to me. I know how your creations are coveted. The only thing I might recommend that I too missed on the 575 (Spectrum 13 caught it) is a larger / Eagle sized headstock. You didn't spec inlays, abalone fret markers or upgrade to "custom" with the bound neck and headstock. Not necessarily recommendations but options you may not be familiar with. Congrats!
H Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Sounds like this is going to be worth waiting for! Why no strap buttons?

I'm familiar but I like it plain with no binding and standard dots. As for the size of the headstock, the longer scale length makes the larger head stock a balance issue. And H, I'm trying to make this a guitar that has been completely personalized for my needs only. That way I'll be less tempted to ever think about selling it (I do know myself well). I only play an arch top sitting with a foot rest and no strap so I don't need them and between the lack of strap buttons, no pick guard, the single pickup, and the long scale length, I doubt if this would interest a lot of people.
Gitfiddler Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Jim, your custom build specs should render you a very nice instrument. One thing to consider is the specific nut width preference. You mentioned it in your final comments, but there are no measurements listed on your spec sheet.

I wouldn't be so sure about people not being interested. It all sounds pretty good to me. And strap buttons are easy.
MartyGrass Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Have you considered building your own? Curious.

The 25 1/2 scale 575 Greg referred to which was a variaton of the Steiner 575, Not neck heavy, the bridge is between the center of the F holes, they will build with a spruce top and did mahogany B&S. With a MOP "the Heritage" they will paint the headstock. If it comes out half a good as mine did, its a keeper. Kudos on the build.
jimsoloway Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 Have you considered building your own? Curious. Marty, I don't know if you realize it but we over to Canada in May. After all these years, that's a lot more rewarding to me. So These days I'm mostly focused on playing and teaching while I wind down what's left of my guitar building business.

jimsoloway Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 Apparently they weren't kidding when they said it was going to go real quickly. I didn't even know they had started yet and these arrived with Christmas greetings today. And these awesome knobs were among the parts that I sent them yesterday. They were made for me by David King, my favorite parts wizard. They're rosewood with a maple stripe inlay and knurled sides.
Spectrum13 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Arnold is holding a bound headstock with an overlay. That was quick.
DavesNotHere Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Sweet! That is going to be quite the looker. I'm certain it will sound even better than it looks.
