This has a long story for having been built last year. Some will remember.

It's a Millennium Standard Ultra, a name that is a paradox itself.

The top is supposed to be an ultra. Yet it is chaotic. There is tiger flame but without order. I like it.

It has a two piece back! They didn't even charge extra to join these billets into one back. How can you ask for more there?

The neck has been described as a "typical" 58 or 59 LP, and Marv did do the carve on it. It likely would fit into that Gibson period well.

The pups are Skatterbane PAFs, Earthbanes specifically.

The guitar has had two owners so far. The first one, who had it built with a fat neck and specifically wound pups, found that it didn't meet his tone needs. I don't know the story of the second owner.

I believe this fella needs a pickguard. We'll see.

I'm sure this will be a fine guitar. I have a pretty clear expectation what it will sound like.

Is this the guitar Lachiron (sp?) had built for his very talented son?

You are correct Howard. Lachiron is in Atlanta. I was surprised when his son Josh decided he did not like it. I forget who purchased it from Lachiron.

Yes it is.

Apparently the band members at Interlochen didn't like the sound of it.

His solo starts at about 2:50.

I'm not sure what happened but a Millie can generally cut through the mix better.

Here's an example. If the strings were heavier and there was a smidge more brightness, this Millie would have been just fine in a big band setting.

Glad to see that this excellent instrument found a home. I remember when Josh ordered the instrument. At the time he was heavily in to blues/rock. It sounds as if he's moving more into the jazz vein and what he really wanted was the archtop sound. He still has his strat for doing the blues stuff.

I think he needed to mix in a bit of his bridge pickup. That darker muted tone he got from the neck just didn't cut through.

Beautiful -really interesting guitar. Will look for a tone report.

Love it. That top is something else. I am listening to Coltrane's live My Favorite Things right now. Coincidence? I think not. Chaos and order are often ambiguously intertwined.

Very nice, interesting top. I thought the kid had a nice Pat Martino vibe going on with his sound. I was definitely digging it.

that is a beauty, congrats!!

is that a mahogany or maple body? if it's HOG that may contribute to a more muted tone.....maple would give it that edge, like Wolfgang's has

but it could well be down to amp settings as well; it also sounded like he had his tone control rolled off in that big band clip?

anyway, Josh is a fantastic guitarist, it all sounded good to me

Josh, definitely had the tone rolled off like they did in the 70s when they played jazz. No way that guitar can be that dark & muddy.
