gjdelaney8 Posted December 27, 2013 Posted December 27, 2013 Looking for a replacement for my sweet 16 floating full size humbucker other then Kent Armstrong. Any recommendations?
Kuz Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Mark, what was the pickup you put in my Unity before I bought it from you? I am away from home and can't check it. What ever it is, I really like it. Am sure MartyGrass will chime in soon.
big bob Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 You can't go wrong with a Duncan p-rail. I have a set in my 575.
Gitfiddler Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I've read good things about Bartolini's and Haussel floating pickups for archtops. Here's a nice video comparing the two...Note, however, that the player uses a pick on the Bartolini version, and fingerstyle for the Haussel. I wish he would have used a pick for both.
big bob Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Floating.... Never mind the p-rail... I missed the floating part.
Genericmusic Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 Benedetto makes a good pick-up http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Electronics,_pickups/Pickups:_Guitar,_archtop/Benedetto_S-6_Suspended_Jazz_Pickup.html?actn=100101&xst=3&xsr=4509
MartyGrass Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 You can't go wrong with a Duncan p-rail. I have a set in my 575. Well, you can go wrong in this instance because it won't float!
MartyGrass Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 The pickup is made by Shadow in Germany and is the Zoller. Attila Zoller devised it years ago and it is great for archtops. Here's a demo.
peterbright Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 What do you find wrong with the Kent Armstrong? Is it a US made one?
Vanschoyck Posted December 28, 2013 Posted December 28, 2013 I normally don't care for a floater, but I'm exceptionally happy with my Buscarino one. I think it's his formula made by Kent A.
2bornot2bop Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 If it's a floater I'm after, and it's not a KA, then for sure it's a Bartolini 5J. If I had sound samples of this one U'd think it was an 18" archtop being played...I've not had a floater that revealed as much wood in the tone...killer pups they are!
