bolero Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 laid my H357 on the drum stool for a while...maybe a couple hours when I picked it up it stuck to the stool, peeled off a bunch of the finish!! you can see what looks like buckle rash on the back...well there is buckle rash too pics link if those embedded ones didn't work: http://el34.webuda.com/images/357/ this gtr has been thru the mill though, it's been refinished at least twice ( it was originally blue, then red, and then there is second thicker coat of dark red on top of that!! ) I suspect the finishes are not compatible & may not have cured properly, or something? I have never heard of this, it's never happened with any of my other Heritages which are nitro question: how do I get this gunk off the stool? alcohol? windex? or pint thinner?
Millennium Maestro Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 [quote name="bolero" post="347864" timestamp="1388536920") it's been refinished at least twice ( it was originally blue, then red, and then there is second thicker coat of dark red on top of that!! ) I suspect the finishes are not compatible & may not have cured properly I had a guitar that never cured because of two different finish compositions. The finish was always soft till I stripped it down and refined it again.
DetroitBlues Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I suggested Goo Gone to remove it from stool.
bolero Posted January 1, 2014 Author Posted January 1, 2014 ah, good idea, thx! I will try alcohol first as it's probably the least toxic...speaking of toxic...it looks like fart residue! not that I've ever uh...umm maybe Lyle would know better he's older than I am!! -->maestro I guess it could be an excuse to refin this thing...but I kinda like the battered history
peterbright Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Probably would be best to strip it and start over...as far as the F--t residue...crap happens.
Steiner Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I agree with the Maestro. Perhaps there's a softener in the vinyl that reacted with the guitar - or - the guitar finish isn't finished... Perhaps it's those air biscuits you left on the seat. Have you been talking with the Bird???
t0aj15 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Forgive me.............if I find it at least mildly humorous that this a thread about the care and nurturing of your bar stool and NOT the guitar.
High Flying Bird Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 I agree with the Maestro. Perhaps there's a softener in the vinyl that reacted with the guitar - or - the guitar finish isn't finished... Perhaps it's those air biscuits you left on the seat. Have you been talking with the Bird??? It's his nasty ass not mine.... this time. I have never sat upon his throne.
Spectrum13 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 It's his nasty ass not mine.... this time. I have never sat upon his throne. Is this about some stool softner? You guys....
Steiner Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 It's his nasty ass not mine.... this time. I have never sat upon his throne. I thought, perchance, that he was studying under you. Is this about some stool softner? You guys.... This level of vinyl decomposition cannot be had from a commercial product. One has to be judged as well above the pack and accepted as an apprentice by the high (flying bird) master.
peterbright Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 There's a reason it's called a drum throne...
111518 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 From an entrepreneurial perspective, I think you've achieved product synergy. You have both a guitar relic'ing technique, and a drum throne anti-butt slide treatment.
DavesNotHere Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Man, you had me concerned when I read the first line of the OP. I glad, well perhaps glad is not the correct word, more like relieved, I'm relieved that it's the older, more mature 357 and not your new one.
Guest HRB853370 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Bolero, you should have no concerns about the gunk on your drum stool, unless however, you sit on it bare assed, and in the event that you do, please do not inform us of it ok? I don't want that in MY mind's eye, although the Bird may differ........... By the way, Roc'n'soc makes a nice drum throne cushion that is shaped like a motorcycle seat and has a fabric sewn on top so you won't have any stickyness problems. I have two of them.

After all I stopped up your toilet and used your tooth brush to break it up.
bolero Posted January 2, 2014 Author Posted January 2, 2014 Forgive me.............if I find it at least mildly humorous that this a thread about the care and nurturing of your bar stool and NOT the guitar. hahaha....good point!! and hilarious comments all the way thru.... Dave I never thought of that...however I have rested many a gtr on that drum throne with no ill effects, including the korina 357! won't be doing it anymore until I get that gunk off though
peterbright Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 foaming bubbles applied with a toilet brush ought to work
koula901 Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 Forgive me.............if I find it at least mildly humorous that this a thread about the care and nurturing of your bar stool and NOT the guitar. My thoughts exactly!

garyyamane Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Nitrocelluose can react with vinyl so be careful of cheap guitar stands as well.
pegleg32 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I think you ought to just relic that puppy out and enjoy it.
bolero Posted January 3, 2014 Author Posted January 3, 2014 Nitrocelluose can react with vinyl so be careful of cheap guitar stands as well. YES!! I never use those gtr stands or holders...in fact the 7 gtr rack I use is covered in black cloth to keep the foam padding away from the finish....even though the mfr states it's nitro safe, IT IS NOT it has discolored gtrs
