asamba Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 hello folks, this day I stumbled upon an item in the german edition of craiglist, "ebay kleinanzeigen", which I cant identify clearly: http://kleinanzeigen.ebay.de/anzeigen/s-anzeige/the-heritage-les-paul/169652060-74-7315?ref=search 1.000 euro seems quite a fair price for this item and the current owner lives near my house, but can someone help me with the electronics (the mini-switches) and some other information. According to the serial, it should be a 1990 model. I do currently own a 2011 H137 (original) and a 1993 H150 (modified with 50s wiring, Faber Bridge/Tailpiece and Gibson 57 Classic PUs), but somehow I like this one, the sunburst just lookes awesome... thanks for your help in advance, asamba
High Flying Bird Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 The guitar in the photo looks like an H-140 with the VIP system. Others will be better able to help with the details. Welcome to the HOC.
TalismanRich Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 From the ad, it's a G serial #, so that would make it 1990. The pickups appear to be standard issue Schallers, with the Schaller roller bridge and tailpiece. The H140 is a slightly thinner version of the LP platform. They will be lighter than a 150/157, but they still have that mahogany/maple body sound. I have an 87 140 and love it. The older VIP system is a bit unusual to understand at first. It allows you to vary the phase of the two pickups as well as run them as coil taps. SouthpawGuy has some pics of his Stat with the same VIP system here. http://s254.photobucket.com/user/SouthpawGuy/media/Heritage%20Stat/P1010114.jpg.html The finish is standard Cherry burst. Looks like a nice one, from what I can tell of the small pictures.
asamba Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 thanks for your quick answers. sounds like I should try it out how the VIP system fits me.... what do you guys think regardings the price? too high, too low, ok?
TalismanRich Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 1000 Euros is about 1380 USD. That's a bit on the higher end by US standards, but I'm guessing be more typical of European prices. I know the guys in Australia are always talking about how expensive US gear is down under.
mark555 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I personally believe that 1000 Euro is too expensive for that guitar, based in England I would say that you could do better. I think you should do some bargaining here.
smurph1 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 My 93 H-140 is my avatar.. Great playing and sounding instrument!! See if you can beat em down a bit.. Maybe they will meet you in the middle..

tonedeaf Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Basically the Variphase option allows you to: 1. Have standard operation except you only have one tone and one volume control. 2. Do a coil tap. 3. Have a two pickup system where you can vary the volume of each pickup separately.
