schundog Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 NFL Playoffs starting this afternoon, so I turn the TV on, on mute, warm up the 5E3, open my iPad chord chart app, and decide to plug in my MIM Baja Telecaster. It's a great guitar, and was the one I decided to keep between it and my American Deluxe Telecaster. The Baja had a thicker, better feeling neck, and the pickups were ballsier. I really dig it for what it is. I played it for a few songs, as always impressed by how many different sounds you can get out of a Tele just by working the volume and tone knobs. After not getting a thick enough sound on one song, I decided to plug my 535 in instead. I had recently restrung it with 11s, up from 10s, and I haven't been able to really get the action back down where it was, which was perfect, with the 10s. Really pissing me off! I've made some bridge adjustments, some truss rod adjustments, but I had just decided to stop screwing with it and take it to my tech whenever I get a chance. This bugs me, as I really like the 535, but to be honest, I've got my ES-335 with 11s, and my Prospect, so it's not like I don't have semi-hollow choices. So it has kind of been neglected lately. I put a strap on the 535, plugged it in, tuned it up, turned it up, and was rewarded with the fullness I was missing with the Tele. Also, the way it hangs on me, the way the body vibrates as it's being played at full volume, just feel right. I do love the Tele, but this was just further confirmation to me that I am a 535 kind of guy. Really bad pics of some really good guitars.
High Flying Bird Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I might plug in my 535 tonight. It's my go to guitar.
DetroitBlues Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Thus is kinda funny. I played my semi hollow body today too... Cold snowy days like this to warm up with hot semi-hollow tones...
ledzef Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 There must be some magic in those old machines at Heritage, for when they make semi's on them they just have a great sound. (Sing that line to Frosty the Snowman)
Gitfiddler Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 A good 535, cranked through a dimed amp with glowing tubes and air coming out of its f-holes is musical comfort food for the soul.
High Flying Bird Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 A good 535, cranked through a dimed amp with glowing tubes and air coming out of its f-holes is musical comfort food for the soul. Last weekend the air was coming out of my 535's f-holes and I could feel it on my hands and arms. She was "a-howlin'!"
kidsmoke Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I just have had no play time lately, and today it got the best of me. I had no business stopping my projects, but that 535, standing in the corner next to my new Boogie, I just had too....and felt the same, Brian. Hand, meet glove.
HANGAR18 Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 I find the 535 to be very comfortable. I like them. Some describe the smaller Prospect model as being more comfortable... because it is smaller... but having never played one, I don't know if I'd like that better or not. If I were to guess, I think I would continue to prefer the 535 when I'm in the mood to play a semi hollow.
H Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Just did a setup on my 535 after playing with a highish action for a while. I've been trying to strengthen my fingers to improve my bending and vibrato techniques. The action is now back to 'just beyond the buzz' and she's nice to play again. Can't beat a 535
mark555 Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 535's are just terrific, you have to have one (or in my case, a 555).
CJTopes Posted January 7, 2014 Posted January 7, 2014 I dont have anything that beats the full tone of my 535.... Not even my 335! Millie DC is a close second.....

Thats not my 535,,,,,,,,,Or Schundog snuck into my house, took my 535, snapped a pic with his Tele and returned it...................possible I guess.
yoslate Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 I could lay an awful lot of singular superlatives on a lot of guitars I've owned: prettiest, coolest, most valuable, most expensive, most collectible, and on and on. The one superlative I can tag to my 535 is that it is the best guitar I've ever owned!
peterbright Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Loved my H535 but alas I sold it. Please feel free to call me an idiot.
rockabilly69 Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 Alot of people I know, who rarely say anything nice about Heritage solid bodies, all concede to me that Heritage 535's are some of the best semi-hollows out there, and to me that says a mouthfull. And if Rob says it's the best guitar he's owned that even more impressive! I almost jumped on one a few months back, but I'm waiting for the PERFECT one:)

yoslate Posted January 8, 2014 Posted January 8, 2014 May I purchase it? $12K, and I'll hand deliver it, with your choice of any of the amps I own....
