Hi all, was curious what experience any of you have with Schaller vs Tone Pro Bridges and Tail Pieces? Pros/cons of either. Thanks in advance.

I've used both. I like the TonePros because they are the more traditional style. Schaller stuff works fine, some say they rob sustain. I imagine like with everything it really varies from guitar to guitar, many people like the Scahller stuff just fine. Pros for the Schaller would be that you can adjust the string spacing. Biggest con would be that it's more of a task to adjust the tailpiece height.

The TonePros kit locks to the studs. I like that and the aesthetics.

I prefer Schaller for originality and ease of string changes. And I also had two bad experiences with tonepros customer service...

Supposedly Seymour Duncan did a sustain test for Jay Wolfe and found that the Schaller hardware had something like 18-20% less sustain than the Tone Pro stuff. Jay insisted on the Tone Pro stuff on his Heritage orders, and Heritage soon made them standard equipment.

Kuz, when did TP become standard. My 150 came with a gotoh bridge and a tailpiece stamped germany

I am not sure. I think they started with the gotoh stuff first and then went to tone pros. They aren't always uniform at Heritage, I was comparing more the transition from Schaller to Nashville TOM hardware.

I think the switchover began around 2000. Could be off though..

Does anyone know how difficult it is to swap out the Schaller stuff for the Tone Pros? Do the threads match etc?

Easy if you buy the correct set. Old bridge, tailpiece and respective studs come off, new items go on.

The part numbers follow:

Metric bridge, Imperial tailpiece

Tonepros LPNM04 set (T3BP bridge, T1ZS tailpiece). The 'N' in the code denotes nickel, speak to a dealer if you need a different finish.

Thanks for the info. I'll check it out : )

I replaced the Shaller stuff on my H150 with a Gibson bridge/tailpiece combination. Much more practical as with the Shaller I got sick and tired of the saddles constantly moving when changing strings. And the tailpiece didn't make much sense either...

Also, I do see an advantage in having fewer moving parts.

Even though I don't dispute the "more attack & sustain" claims, I have to admit that he guitar sounded killer before and sounds killer now so....but the whole thing is much more solid and practical now.
