There has been a few instances of following old sales and reading questions to sellers about a black dot on the pickup toggle switch tip.

Can somebody share what is the significance of the black dot on the tip of the pickup selector switch?

These denote very special pickups, HRWs. That stands for Heritage:Rendall Wall Pickups. They are Schallers that have been tweaked by Ren to be very sought after. Some love them, some don't, but they are going for upwards of $400 on Ebay, as they are no longer produced.

Usually that means that the guitar came with HRW pickups. HRW stands for Heritage Rendell Wall. They are Schaller pickups that were modified by Ren. They are highly sought after in Heritage circles with almost a mythical status. Ren won't discuss the formula with anyone. I tried to get it out of him a few times. They have a really wide dynamic range. With good lows, mids, and highs.

Why wouldn't he do one pair a month and put them on Ebay? Seems like it would be a nice way to make beer money or whatever he wanted to buy. Are the base Schaller's still made?

There was a supply problem with Schallers. That's why Heritage switched to Seymour Duncan pickups. Ren has his reasons for not making HRWs. And he's not talking.

One reason for discontinuing them was that they were quite expensive for Heritage to include relative to off the shelf p'ups.

Wow...pretty cool if you have them.

Thanks filling in the blanks.

Thank you.

Do you own a set?

I wonder if they would make a set into a HRW if you had the donner schaller pickups?

I do not think Schaller is still in the pickup business, seems to be I remember someone saying that in a discussion.

Schaller pickups are available in Europe. They are hard to find in the USA. I think Ren is totally out of the pickup business. He won't discuss it at all.

I have never seen any go for even close to $400.
