heritagefan7 Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 did not want to hijack a current thread running abt amp choices and have, since reading the wisdom of my fellow HOCers begun exploring diff options from the big price tag, heavy weight Mesas. I found a local store that carried Blackstar--GREAT cleans and crunch, but didn't quite get to that American hi gain sound that I was looking for. VOX AC15--just did the wonderful stuff VOX does--again, no hi gain w/o pedals. Then tried Hughes and Kettner H&G tubemeister 36 (Grandmeister is even fancier)---super clear clean, good to really good crunch and blistering hi gain. lots of bells and whistles--THEN I cound out this German tube amp was made in China---I don't want to be a snob, but I was so disappointed and can't see dropping $900 buck for a non American/British/German option. After reading the many threads and words of advice to me and others, I think that I may settle on a Mesa 5:50+ express. It seems to be the best of all worlds. Used is more affordable and I never see needing more power or options. Although NAMM is coming up soon!!!!!!!
