schundog Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I dig my 170, and probably play it more often than my 150, because it weighs so much less. Schaller pickups on this 1988, ebony board, bound neck/headstock/abalone inlay on the headstock. I got this one from Brent a couple years ago.
PunkKitty Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Brian, do you still have the 170 I sold you?
schundog Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 No, Monica, I sold it to raise money for something else; What, I can't remember (sad...) It had a beautiful top, too, despite it's "war wounds." It looked/sounded very cool with the Alumitones.
schundog Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Here's the one I bought from Monica that is now gone.
Redsand Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Damn Shcun, That H-170 must have found it's self on the wrong side of a bad gig or two….I've seen enough docu-drama to recognize old defensive wounds!
schundog Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Damn Shcun, That H-170 must have found it's self on the wrong side of a bad gig or two….I've seen enough docu-drama to recognize old defensive wounds! HA! Yeah, they look bad in pics, and the headstock had been repaired (on both of mine, actually) but the scratches on the neck were on the underside, and I never even really felt them. Plus, the scratches and headstock repair made for a very good deal. I probably should have kept it. Oh Well....
schundog Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I like this one That has to be the best 170's I've ever seen, and in the top 10 of ANY Heritage, looks-wise!
DetroitBlues Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I had my grubby paws on a 1985 170 once, wasn't mine. Nice guitar, thin D shape, felt exactly like my '85 140, but it wasn't my style...
Yooper Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 The first notes I heard out of Big Bob's Bigsby Beauty won me over. Sweet.
yoslate Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 The first notes I heard out of Big Bob's Bigsby Beauty won me over. Sweet. I remember auditioning that one, at PSP. Bags of great tone in that bad boy!
Redsand Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 I like this one I can't keep from coming back to this one for second look, and a third and……………special!
Stringman Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I apologize for my rant against the H-170. I should have remembered the old adage: "if you can't say something nice..........". The title of the post did say: "...In Praise Of...". My bad. Stringman
Spectrum13 Posted January 31, 2014 Posted January 31, 2014 I can't keep from coming back to this one for second look, and a third and……………special! That is a 177 yes it is worth a few looks
JackBaruth Posted February 1, 2014 Posted February 1, 2014 I have that employee-build H-170 with the crazy one piece back. Need to limp down to the basement for photos. The 170 is a better mousetrap than the 150, it just doesn't feel as rock-and-roll.
bobmeyrick Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Japan's answer to the DC conundrum, circa 1978. Rosewood over maple with a five pc through- neck nice lines. That picture of the Washburn "Wing" reminded me of a rare British guitar which was made around the same time in the late 1970s - the Pack Leader. There were very few of these made (around 70 I believe), and they cost about double that of a Les Paul! They were a through neck design, with some unusual features. I found this video of one being put through its paces...
