Was There A Millennium DC Design Change Sometime?

I have recently really taken notice of the Millennium DC. I started looking through the gallery on here for examples and notice that some of the guitars seem to have an inch or more added to the body in the area where the neck heel and body meet. Was there a design change along the way? Or is this an option that some guys request? Or am I just seeing an optical illusion?

I didn't post the pictures that show examples of what I'm talking about because I don't own these guitars or pictures.

What am I seeing?

Thanks

If the pics are in the gallery they're already shared for our viewing pleasure :) If you're still uncomfortable doing that just post a link rather than the image. As for the joint differences the H170 has changed quite a bit. But was not aware of a neck/heel change on the Millie DC.

This was my 2008 DC. No longer have.

Here's what I'm asking about. Two with a longer body extension that meets then neck heel. And one with the shorter design.

Looks like the one I had was the long profile.

I like the look of the shorter one from the back, but from the front, I don't think you can really tell much difference. It's not obvious, anyway.

That's Pressure's Milli. Maybe he can respond.

And pressure, that is a beautiful guitar!!! Outstanding!!

I would offer that they may have changed that neck joint right around the time they changed the H170 neck joint.

Do you know what year that was, tulk1?

And isn't that your guitar propped up on the sofa? That's another beautiful guitar!! I like that one very much!

Is there any difference in sound or tone on the guitars with no f holes? Is this a cosmetic preference, or something more?

Don't know about other Millles but mine has a carved spruce top which took a long time to properly age. There was some concern that it might crack. So the no f hole option gives structural integrity to the top.

that's interesting I wonder if the bridge & tailpiece are moved further south on the front side as well, on the shorter models...since the scale length is the same?

Yes, that's mine. My first Millie was an arch top/back. Absolutely fabulous and somewhat unique Heritage. Marv told me they were still experimenting with the design when those were out. Not too many made. Then they settled on the semi-solid version they offer now. To help reduce feedback I thought I'd order mine without F Holes. What that did was basically turn it into a lightweight, double cut H150. Made with Maple. It still can exhibit semi-hollow properties, like the top moving and trying to push air. But with the solid top it's much closer to a 150 than I had with my original arched Millie. That is not a bad thing, as the MIllie NFH can sing with the best of them. It was just an unexpected result of not having F Holes.
