17571 Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Does anyone know what it would entail, or is it even feasible, to convert a bridge pickup to a neck application? Just a thought asI have a bridge HRW that came in a set I will probably never use.
PunkKitty Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 You would have to contact someone who rewinds pickups and have them rewind it. At that point it is no longer an HRW. The other option is to just use that pickup as a neck pickup and match it with something that has slightly more output in the bridge position.
davesultra Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 In the beginning, there were no neck & bridge specific pickups. RW/RP came about later if I'm not mistaken. Wasn't Duncan the originator of the "Calibrated" sets?
les paulverizer Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 I wouldn't worry too much about the neck/bridge thing. Before Di Marzio and Seymour Duncan started making calibrated sets, in the 80s I guess, pickups were just pickups. When Jimmy Page replaced the bridge pickup in his #1 Les Paul he ordered...a pickup for his guitar, and it sounded pretty good! I myself went through a period of totally ignoring the "calibration" thing and just fitting any pickup, in any position, and with both the guitar and the pickup being of good quality, it sounded fine. Mind you, I feel that would only work with "vintage style"/lower output pickups, an high output one would most probably(?) screw the whole thing up...

Just a thought as I have a bridge HRW that came in a set I will probably never use. I have both neck and bridge HRWs on the Millie and VIP2 set below the top of the pickup mounting rings. As the bridge HRW p'up is wound hotter than the neck you may find there isn't enough adjustment range in the neck position. Just a thought. HRWs in the VIP2 And for reference, '59s in the 535 Seths in the Prospect .
tbonesullivan Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 While originally there were no Neck and Bridge pickups, the HRW pickups I believe are designed as Neck and Bridge sets. I am fairly certain they are wound differently using some kind of magic Ren Wall recipe. I would say just sell one, and get something else. They tend to command a good price.
