iim7v7im7 Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 I made a huge mistake a few weeks back when I was considering trying out some different speakers in my RedPlate Blackverb. I gave Henry Heistand (RedPlate Amps) a call because he's tried many. He asked me about my amp (BlackVerb Standard) and what I liked and what I didn't. After talking about speakers for a few minutes, Henry proceeded to tell me about a "new" amp that he was about to launch. Henry has both a wealth of knowledge and an infectious enthusiasm about his amps and this comes across the phone. Big Mistake...:-) Two weeks later I find myself in an unforeseen position. Somehow, I have placed the best amplifier that I have ever played (my BlackVerb Standard) for sale, and ordered a new amp from Henry! How did this happen? Well, I placed my order so the die is cast. I have listed my BV in the for sale section. It should arrive in 6-8 weeks.
schundog Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Once you get the new amp, you'll probably have a pretty good idea of how this happened.... Congratulations on your upcoming New Amp Day!
Vanschoyck Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 So, you were saying in your for sale thread that the new one would be lighter? What are the parameters of the new amp?
212Mavguy Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Don't worry…NOT a mistake…. and for goodness' sake wait until you have a hundred hours on the new one for break in, the tones will change during that time. I'd be pleased to have the opportunity to own or play any of his amps, PERIOD. Don't get yer panties in a bunch. When it comes, shut up and play your guitar. Peace.
iim7v7im7 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 So, you were saying in your for sale thread that the new one would be lighter? What are the parameters of the new amp? WEIGHT: 32 lb. vs. 49 lb. (Smaller PT/OT) SIZE: 17x17x8.5 vs. 19x19x10.5 POWER: 40w vs. 50w (6L6) FLEXIBILITY: Tweed Preamp + BF Preamp + OD vs. BF Preamp + OD BIAS: Cathode Bias vs Dual Fixed Bias/Cathode Bias OPERATION: Pentode Operation vs. Pentode Operation/Triode Operation REVERB: Installed Digital Reverb Pedal vs. Tube/Accutronics Reverb Smaller, lighter, less powerful, adds tweed tones, loses modes of operation and tube reverb.
peterbright Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 17 pounds lighter...that's significant.
Vanschoyck Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Very impressive. I'll be watching with great interest for your update upon arrival. Sounds kind of like it's based on a Tweedy Drive? I talked to Henry a few weeks ago about doing one with some kind of reverb in it but he didn't like the idea much at that point.

iim7v7im7 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 BTS2? No, its called an RP40. The major difference between it and the BTS2 is that BOTH the Tweed and BF preamps can feed the OD section. On a BTS2 only the BF feeds the OD. Henry is revising his line-up. His site will reflect this soon.
iim7v7im7 Posted February 28, 2014 Author Posted February 28, 2014 17 pounds lighter...that's significant. Yes...lower weight is driven by smaller cab, smaller iron, no tube reverb and neo speaker.

It shares the same Tweed pre-amp and OD sections as the TweedyDrive but it adds the BF preamp like my BlackVerb. I will velcro a Wet Reverb pedal inside the cab which has a built in power strip. I can have short cables hooked up to the loop.
