Replacement key for Heritage Case

I did several searches but didn't find an answer. I'm sure it's here somewhere, so forgive me if this has been asked and answered. The 2000 H535 I bought last month came with all it's case candy, but the key for the case. I'd like to get one for it. I sent an email to TKL 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back.

My gut tells me these keys may be sort of generic and only have a few versions of the keys, like most older luggage. If that's true, I'd need some guidance on figuring out which keys might work.

Thanks in advance.

I am sure they are generic, but I have to ask, does anyone else lock their cases with the provided keys? I have never done that. Maybe I am weird but I put the keys along with all the other case swag and put it into my safe at home.

You probably don't have a nosy 12-year old boy or plan on travelling with yours  Lock just help keep honest people honest-er and the curious out of trouble. I go to a local jam that's open to lots of musicians that only drop in once in a while. I don't know all of them and a locked case says "Don't Touch" without me saying a word or being a jerk about it.

Haha!! Now that you put it that way... maybe I should dig out those keys! I never did like going to jams and someone peering into the case, just never occurred to me to use the locking case. In fact I forgot they even locked. :-) Have you tried looking on eBay? I would even recommend calling the boys over at Heritage and see if they maybe have one laying around.

I don't have kids yet, but when I do I am installing a key locking door to the jam room/ man cave. Maybe a deadbolt also, that depends how curious they get. :-)

Quick search of the interwebs indicates all the TKL keys are the same cut. So ... if you another TKL case somewhere you can use that one. Or maybe find someone to part with one. Interesting the email to TKL didn't produce anything. They are generally very responsive.

Back when I tried to get a firebird case from them they were impossible to get in touch with. I sent e-mails and left phone messages but nothing worked.

$7.50!? How many guys walking it to your house? You'd think somebody could chunk it into an envelope, slap a stamp on it, and put it with the day's outgoing....

Yeah, I wasn't really buying the 'free' key thing. $7.50 won't separate me from the dinner table. But I'd rather she said a replacement key is $7.50 with shipping, which is closer to the truth. I guess she wanted to make me feel 'special' or maybe she thought I already was :icon_jokercolor:

Just be careful: those locks are more ornamental than anything else, and I have heard of the mechanism breaking, which means the case can be stuck shut.

I have two yamaha trombones, and I only really lock the case to prevent the case from opening up by accident when I've gotta put them in the cargo area of a bus.

Sorry for the late update. I received the key a few days after my last post. I get much nicer keys in the mail from car dealerships as "come-ons" to win a free car, if it fits.

It is a stamped plain blank. No markings, no logo, no nothing. Works perfectly fine.

I once accidentally turned the combination on my Gibson Les Paul case, and could not remember what the 3 digit sequence was. I had to start out at 001 then 002, well you get the picture, until the case unlocked. I sat there with a 12 pack of beer and patiently (not really, lots of cursing) tried each combination sequence. When I got to the number 337 the case unlocked! Man was I happy! It could have been way worse, could have taken me all the way to 999!!!!
