New (OLD!) Yamaha SS Amps X2!

Recommended Posts

You know how you get a new car, and all of a sudden, you notice that car EVERYWHERE?! That's kind of what has happened lately with Yamaha Amps for me. Randy (fxdx99) and keith have recently brought up the virtues of these old amps from the 80s, and just this week, I've seen 4 of them. Two have followed me home, a 50 410 and a 50 112, just today. Check out my Old Yamaha Amps thread for the story on the 410.

Today, Wifey wanted me to run some errands with her. We paid her Kohl's bill, ate some Tex Mex at Moe's, and then I pulled into Midwest Exchange, a seedy pawnshop in a strip mall across from K-Mart. Tokyo Spa, a massage parlor rumored to give "happy endings" is in this mall, along with a pentacostal church, a Mexican Grocery store and a Payday Loan shop are in this mall. You get the idea. She said "Why do you EVER go here?!" I told her it was because I needed some 22LR ammo for her automatic pistol, and NOBODY in town has any. (true. even them.) She decided to stay in the van when the occupants of the car next to us got out. One dude had on a biker jacket and a stars and bars bandana, the other goateed dude looked like he couldn't spell hairbrush. "I'll wait," she said, haha. I checked on the ammo, then looked at the stuff that's been sitting there for the last few years, rarely changing. I couldn't believe they had one of these Yamaha amps there, the 112! They wanted $79.95 for it, I offered $50, because it buzzed something awful in the store, and they accepted $60 cash out the door. I brought it home, and was concerned when it was buzzing loudly there. I plugged an instrument cable and my Millenium into it, and was relieved to hear the buzzing go away immediately. In fact, it sounds even better and louder?! than the 50 410 I have. Awesome amp for very little coin, and very portable. Some yutz had put a Boss sticker on the front of it at some time, but that can easily come off. Pics to folllow.

Filthy cab, and apparently, 100 or so gnats committed suicide on the speaker magnet....

As the employee at Midwest Exchange came to check out the buzz on the amp, he pulled out a purple Crown Royal bag out of the back of the amp that I hadn't noticed. It had a Kyser capo and a Korg Tuner in it, along with a glass slide. He agreed to my lower offer, saying he could offset some of the difference with this stuff. Also in the bag was a glass slide. He told me I could keep it. Unfortunately, I set it on the kitchen island with my wallet and phone when we got home. I came down to the basement, and, minutes later, I heard glass breaking upstairs. The stupid cat shown earlier had jumped up on the island and batted the slide onto the hard ceramic tile floor. 1000 pieces. Sometimes I hate these dumb cats!!

You spin a good yarn Brian.

I think your wife made the right move. We all know who has the brains in the family.

I've heard stories of bad slide playing sounding like two cats, well ..... use your imagination.

Maybe your cat had a bad experience.

I'm ready to hire a film crew and follow you around. GAS Pawn Shop
