rstein Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I am having a hard time deciding between a H 150 and H157custom. I don't know what kind of price difference their is? I am not looking to go crazy I just want a natural top and my HRW's installed. I have a price brochure but its from 2011 and I don't know if the pricing structure has changed. Any help would be appreciated thanks.
smaj Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Price is roughly $400 to $600 more for a new 157, used ones are closer in price to a 150 new.
tulk1 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 What I would suggest is to find your dealer. Make sure he knows you're an HOC member. And that he tells the plant that when he gets your quote. Then ask him to price both for you. Best way to find out the actual price difference in what you're after.
rstein Posted March 3, 2014 Author Posted March 3, 2014 I live in kalamazoo and I have already gone to the plant and talked with Bill on the phone. I got a price for a H 157 but I don't want to keep calling and bothering them. Also this is my first Heritage so I guess I'm not quite a member yet. Just out of curiosity do you get better deals if you are a HOC member? Thanks.

Monetarily, your probably not going to save any more then a non-member would but you'll most certainly get a better experience if all the parties involved know their not dealing with a chain-yanker just blowin smoke. Contact Green Oak Guitar STAT, I only wish I'd used Paul for for my recent Heritage order!!..........https://www.facebook.com/GreenOakGuitar?ref=stream

Unless things have changed recently that's not entirely true. HOC members have been given better deals in the past. And if you've singed up and post ... you're a member. But then, I haven't ordered a custom Heritage in a couple years. Guess that policy could have changed.
Kuz Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 HOC members are often quoted slightly better deals, this is true. I am with Tulk1, Kenny, do as he said.... Unless you want to pay more.
MartyGrass Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I like H157s, but it's just a dressed up H150. Nonetheless, don't get a H150 then find out you wished you'd splurged a little for a H157. Work that out within your psyche before committing money. My cousin lost his first wife to alcoholism and liver failure. At his second wedding he told me, "I tried pretty. This time I'm going for nice." The point is that most don't know what they want until they get the wrong thing.

HANGAR18 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 I like both (H150's & H157's) but after much thinking about it, my favorite is the H157. For me, it started out with being a fan of the Gibson Les Paul guitar, owning some of the lesser expensive Les Paul model guitars and wishing I could own something as freeekin' awesome as a Les Paul Custom. Lusting after a Les Paul Custom might be a little more accurate. But, at $4000.00 for a Les Paul Custom... I wasn't ever able to afford one. Eventually I discovered Heritage guitars and the model H157. I really like the extra binding that they put into the H157 models. The H150 has binding only on the front side of the body where the H157 has binding front, back, along the sides of the fretboard and around the headstock. Often times The Heritage logo is inlay instead of a decal. (You can get extra binding on a H150 but it is available only through a special order upcharge whereas all that binding is standard on a H157.) I consider the extra binding to be a very groovy, old school/vintage time consuming feature that adds a lot of class to the instrument. But, some people find the rear body binding to be less comfortable when playing because it can really dig into someone's mid-life beer gut rather awkwardly. I'm in that category but I still love the H157's anwyay. They have the good looks of a Les Paul Custom but they are made better and I have personally met the people who make them.

About $400.00... upcharge a 150 to a bound headstock and MOP "the Heritage" adds a couple hundred. Want the belly cut? Custom order a 157 with a rosewood board and unbound scarfed back, blocks or traps. Only sonic difference between the 150 -157 is the ebony board. Should be a H 153 or a H156.
HANGAR18 Posted March 3, 2014 Posted March 3, 2014 Only sonic difference between the 150 -157 is the ebony board. I have experienced a longer sustain with the 157's I've owned over the 150's I've owned but YMMV.
bluesgolfer Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I have a vintage wineburst 157 with chrome hardware instead of gold and the entire color combination of black ebony board, vintage wb, and chrome is gorgeous. My only complaint is the neck binding. The little niblets on the fret ends reduces the playing area of the fret. I'll have to get a refret so that the fret ends can extend to the full width of the fret board but wish I would have ordered it that way. Unless you like narrow string spacing, I would order it without the niblet binding ends.
