Ned Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 What Heritage models have P90s? 525, 137, do they sho up in150s? What do you think about jazz tone with P90s? I am finding the Schallers to be a bit muffled. Thanks for your thoughts
HANGAR18 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Many Heritage models are special ordered and so P90's have been seen in virtually every Heritage model there is. I've seen them in H150's, H157's and 575's too.
Ned Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 Super Eagle, custom order.... Oh, that's pretty. How does she sound plugged In compared to amplified?
Yooper Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Lester and Mary played jazz on their Gold Top P-90s. And who knows how many others on different guitars. I like to use both pickups, with the bridge volume and neck and/or bridge tone cut to taste for nice depth and full sound.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 P-Rails in a 576 Maybe not P90 enough for the purists, but with the advantage of retro fitting an existing humbucker routed guitar, they do the job nicely
Ned Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 P-rails, now that's an interesting thought for the academy. Thanks for all the great shots. Beautiful instruments.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 First guitar I got P-Rails in was the 170, I liked them so much I had them installed in a 535 and the 576 pictured above.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 Let us not forget Phat Cats... IIRC HFBs 535 has PCs
Gitfiddler Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 The jazz tone from Heritage archtop-loaded P90's (Eagles, 575s, and 525s) is very close, if not sweeter, than the early recordings of Burrell, Montgomery and Pass. Drop a set into a 530, 535 or 555 and you get that classic Grant Green tone. And in a solid bodied 150 or 157, you get all of the jazzy, creamy, bluesy, snarling angst of some of the best sounding P90's ever recorded! This is my 'do it all' P90 gitfiddle:
Number8 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 I tend to forget about and under-appreciate the dulcet clean tones that you can get out when you roll back the bridge tone and dial up the neck tone. I just wish I were any good at playing jazz styles.
zguitar71 Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 I play jazz with that amp and that p90 150 GT and it sounds great. It is not the big sound of a super eagle, but the carity of the p90 pick up is beautiful and IMO a different but equal option for jazz when compared to the standard jazz type set up.
big bob Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Another vote for p-rails I also would recommend the rio grande fat bastard which is a humbucker sized p-90 I have one in the 140 custom, very dynamic.

Looks like you have the pole pieces adjusted close to the strings ?
bobmeyrick Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 IIRC HFBs 535 has PCs There's only one real word in that sentence! I bemoan the creeping influence of text-speak and the slow death of proper spelling and punctuation! Harrumph!

Let us not forget Phat Cats... The P90 sound is great and that inspired me to put a set of Phat Cats into my 150 TB.

Ned Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 I feel the gas growing stronger. Thanks for the great replies. Hollow or solid? Hollow or solid? Hollow or solid? Hollow or solid?
