BuddyDog Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Yesterday, I went to the portal and I got a pop-up message on top of the site stating they wanted to place a "cookie". Thought it was legit and clicked "yes" or whatever. Norton went absolutely batsh*t, and detected something called the Web Attack Red Exploit Kit Website 2. which it decided to nuke. FWIW the IP of the sender is 46.30.212.228 and a URL is rjautomobiler.dk/viewer.aspx? upload=rar&directory-id=0 Don't know if this is legit or not, but FYI...

HANGAR18 Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 It's a problem that has been mentioned in another thread.
heritagefan7 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Mark--that's a great question...& one that has plagued humanity since the beginning of time!
bolero Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 "C" stands for Cookie ...good enough for me cookie, cookie, cookie, starts with "C"
DetroitBlues Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Yes, I still see the message, again, I believe there is something going on where the website has something on it uploading a virus to our PC's.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I'm on a Windows XP pc using Firefox 27 with Adblock Plus and AVG Internet Security 2014. I'm not getting any pop ups or ads. What way are those that are getting the pop ups accessing the forum .... Internet Explorer on Windows XP / 7 / 8 ? Apple Macs with Safari or Firefox ? Mobile devices ( phones, tablets) using a browser or Tapatalk ? Different browsers like Chrome, Firefox or Opera for PC or Android etc ? I don't log in every time, are those that get pop ups logging in for every session ?

The browser or version does not seem to matter. Oh, and you really should upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as possible.
Millennium Maestro Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I get the same popup every time I open the site, I just refresh the window and move on... Initially I pushed NO and it redirected me so I knew it was not good and have avoided it ever since. This has been going on for over a month.
silverbeard Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I've never had any trouble with a pop up. I'm using an Apple with OSX 10.9.2 and/or a Dell net book using Ubuntu Linux ver 13.1. Hope this doesn't jinx me!
smurph1 Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I was seeing it quite a bit, but always declined the offer.. now I'm doing fine.. (at least for the moment..)
DetroitBlues Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I have Explorer 8.0.7601.17514 I do not have this problem on iPhone/iPad.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Oh, and you really should upgrade to Windows 7 as soon as possible. Nah. Been on XP SP2 since at least 2009 with automatic updates turned off, no problems. I use Firefox with AVG internet security, all is well.
bolero Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I'm using noscript, it's a free browser plugin that blocks scripts unless you specifically allow them. highly recommended. but it can be annoying if you visit a lot of sites full of various media content ( which are higher risk: sometimes you need to give permission to 10+ hard-to-identify scripts/other sites to get things to work on them. Which is a perfect example of why security is an issue with the plethora of wanton scripts modern sites "need" to run on your computer ) I suspect that cookie thing is related to the ad banner that shows links to offsite advertising; once I actually login I don't see any redirect warnings
tonedeaf Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I have never seen any of the reported issues. I use Chrome on 7.x and Avast Antivirus. I am conscientious but not obsessive about upgrades. (As a software engineer and PC user since DOS 3.? I highly recommend Avast. If some asks me to troubleshoot their computer and they have Norton I require that they let me remove it before i do anything for them. I find Norton to be a virus that you pay money for.)
MartyGrass Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I started to see it when I switched to Windows 7. Possibly a coincidence. If I refresh the screen, it disappears.

MartyGrass Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 I haven't been able to paste to HOC for a while. Even if I click on "Quote" to start a post in response to someone else's, no quote appears. I'm not whining that I can't post pix. I know it's a sign from God. I just don't know what that sign means. Switch to Gretsch perhaps?
Ned Posted March 15, 2014 Posted March 15, 2014 Not Gretsch, 2B has got some big doings over at Guild. There is some hollow body goodness over there.

Hello, MartyGrass- I just looked at your account and there are no restrictions set on it. I'm not sure why you would be having difficulty pasting or posting pictures. Do you get an error message?

The same thing started happening to me a couple of months ago. When I access the site from my Windows 7 machine, I can not use the quote function or paste links or text. Previously these functions worked for me. When I use my XP machine, everything seems to work just fine. (using the XP machine now)
