NGD: Unexpected baby arrival- Sweet 16

I drove to Ohio to get one guitar and ended up with two. Long story and I'll spare you it.

This 1994 Sweet 16 was one of a pair apparently made of the same spruce. One was the tiger striped maple with a Florentine cut. This one is "bubble" maple with a Venetian cut.

It's remarkably light with a thin cross-braced top. It needs a set up and a bridge base fitting. But it is loud.

Tone report after new strings and a set up.

Here it is with two 18" archtops.

For all of those who have so recently said they are GAS free, lets see what effect these recent acquisition photos have! Guitar purchases are very contagious.

Congratulations on your last guitars!

Just beautiful specimens of what comes out of 225 Parsons St.

Fab guitar as always.

Yeah, that bastard. Now I have to change my password again.

I put Pyramid Flatwounds Round (not Hex) Cores 12-52s on it. The truss wrench needed a half a turn. All is well with it.

This Floating #3 (I'm guessing that's what the pup is) has more mids than what I expected. It may have a few more coil wraps. It won't need replacing. It's just right.

The sound both acoustically and amplified is superb.

I really didn't expect it to play and sound so good.

Don't bother calling for dibs. There was already a small line before I even got this guitar.

Another beauty...caught you by surprise she did.

How do you like the Pyramid strings? I've never tried them.

The strings seem good.

My first experience with them was disappointing because a wound string snapped. It took a couple of weeks for a replacement to arrive, but the owner in Germany personally sent one.

There was a sale recently on them. I bought a few packs of the round core flatwounds, not their usual hex core. They are very similar to TIs in feel and tone. They generally run about $5 a pack less. With the sale it they were much cheaper, but it's over now.

My suggestion is that if you are completely happy with TIs, don't change. But I will order more Pyramids in the future. The round cores only go up to 12s though.

I use Pyramid .011-.048s on my Strat and Semi-Hollowbody...

They are great round wound nickel strings, and I recommend them. That being said, nothing that I have played over the last 20-years has replaced TI BeBops on my archtops.

the back and sides alone were worth that drive...better give me dibs on that one! :)

You know what guitar hunting is like. It's a bit more than just a drive and some money!

i didn't know they had a venetian Sweet 16, if I did I may of held out for one

Heritage will do almost anything within reason.

I've never seen another Venetian 16, so you may have held out a very long time.
