brentrocks Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I acquired this body and neck from a long time Heritage junkie. I think the body was originally a VIP 1...but the tone hole and the mini toggle holes had been filled. The neck looks to be from a H 101..hockey stick headstock. The body is routed for a Floyd Rose trem and 1 humbucker. I haven't decided to re-drill the tone pot hole or not? The body was red at one point and then it was striped. Its a 1 piece maple slab. I hand stained it a light burnt amber. The neck is maple with a maple board and pearl markers. its drilled for mini grovers (I just happen to have a set). There was also a Kahler locking nut on it at one time. I decided to black-out the headstock, add a stinger and a custom logo. I'm doing everything with rattle cans and blue painters tape. As of 11:30 am today, I have 3 coats of clear on the body and neck. One more wet sanding and another coat of clear and I think she will be ready for assembly. I'm waiting on parts....Floyd, pickup, backplate....should have it rocking by next week. This is how I received it... masked off the neck... sanded and stained the body... painted headstock and added my custom logo...
davesultra Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 That Brent, always got somethin' going on! Looks good so far!
ScottNaylor Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Sweet! Do you have plans for the humbucking heart of the beast?
brentrocks Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 Sweet! Do you have plans for the humbucking heart of the beast? Dimarzio super distortion.
Redsand Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 That's a cool project shredder Brent! I was totally on board up until I got to the headstock and stinger pics, I'd suggest clear coating over a single bloody thumbprint as the logo! Either way....GLWYS:-)
davesultra Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 That's one big honkin' @ss Heritage logo! Hope you don't accidentally make this one into an LW model.
squawken Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Nice. Put flames on it. It will make you go faster. Always my theory for cars
Guest HRB853370 Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 I bet the Red Wings would play better if they used those type necks for hockey sticks!
SouthpawGuy Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Very interesting Brent. Is it going to have a kill switch ? A guitar like that really needs one, 'cos it sounds way cool
brentrocks Posted March 22, 2014 Author Posted March 22, 2014 Very interesting Brent. Is it going to have a kill switch ? A guitar like that really needs one, 'cos it sounds way cool I was thinking about it
Redsand Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Very interesting Brent. Is it going to have a kill switch ? A guitar like that really needs one, 'cos it sounds way cool I second a kill switch!! Very cool in the right hands. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NM8DuJKYlqE
SouthpawGuy Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 I was thinking about it If you remember when my VIP2 was sent to Heritage for HRWs and an upgrade from VIP to D-VIP instead of leaving the third switch location blank Ren wired it as a kill switch.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 btw it will be interesting to know what you think of the maple body and maple neck combination. According to internet lore a solid maple body should be heavy and produce a bright sounding guitar. My VIP2 is neither.

RhoadsScholar Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Call it the Screaming Eagle or Flaming Eagle. Very Nice. Love the maple fretboard on that one too
SouthpawGuy Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 the funny thing is that its not heavy Yeah, I was expecting the VIP2 to be a beast but it's not at all heavy.
bolero Posted March 23, 2014 Posted March 23, 2014 pretty neat project Brent! looking forward to the finished thing
