SouthpawGuy Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 It may look something like this .... The label shown indicates the model ( 157 Classic), the serial number ( V09003), the finish ( OSB Old Style Burst) and the pickups ( '59s , Duncan '59s).
SouthpawGuy Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 There also may be no label at all on the cover, at least there isn't on my 150 and 157
tsp17 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 What a beautiful top on your 150!! Sweet!!! yes, indeed. and Welcome.
cosmitron Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 There also may be no label at all on the cover, at least there isn't on my 150 and 157 mystery solved, it's an Amber. Thanks for your tips! While I am at it, from this picture, could anyone tell me if those are the stock pots?
cosmitron Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Thanks! So I'll add some CTS 500k to the basket ^^'
SouthpawGuy Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 mystery solved, it's an Amber. Thanks for your tips! While I am at it, from this picture, could anyone tell me if those are the stock pots? No problem. And by the way ... welcome to the addiction.
Blunote Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 IIRC, those pots were either 400 or 450K. Not bad, but if you've got it apart, you may as well replace them. And if you do, may as well replace the solid state caps with some vintage PIOs. Also, consider, 50's wiring.
cosmitron Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Yeah that's one of the option I thought about. Totally wanna try the treble bleed wiring. I have lots of russian pio caps from a previous life so I definitely wanna use them. After some thoughts I think I'll try the stock pots first and see/hear how it sounds like. Considering lots of '500k' pots used in the 50's by Gibson were actually lower values like 300 to 400 it might as well sound good to me with the 400/450k stock pots. Nothing's set in stone ^^
smaj Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 That is a very beautiful Heritage, welcome to the club.
