whiskeymike Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Hello HOC members, I have been eavesdropping on this site for awhile and finally realized it's time for me to ask for some advice. I've known about Heritage guitars for years and have always been impressed with their history and reputation, but there doesn't seem to be many of these guitars around. Two weeks ago I ran into an acquaintance who let me play his Golden Eagle and I just can't stop thinking about it. Personally I prefer the clean look of the Eagle Classic, but I was immediately hooked and I am almost certain the next addition to my collection will be a Heritage. So here's where I need some advice: What is the best way to choose a Heritage dealer? On the Heritage website there is only one dealer listed in Colorado (he is 100 miles away and has been completely unhelpful). None of the surrounding states have dealers listed either. I am planning on making some minor changes to the stock Eagle Classic, if it's a special order would I be able to order directly through Heritage? I realize that I may have to show some faith to buy this guitar but I'm a little nervous about spending this kind of money up front, sight unseen, from a dealer several states away. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, WM
Steiner Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 First and foremost, welcome whiskeymike. Most of us here have already gone through this. Quite honestly, it's rather enjoyable. You have to order through a dealer. My recommendation is GreenOakGuitar.com - good folks that can get you what you want.
Billgelder Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 GREEN OAK GUITAR 10075 COLONIAL INDUSTRIAL DR. SOUTH LYON, MI 48178 248*437*9977 oakgreenguitar@gmail.com gbase.com Green Oak Guitar Paul is a great guy and knows all there is to know about Heritage Guitars.
whiskeymike Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 Thanks for the response Steiner and Billgelder! Are prices consistent from dealer to dealer? After my negative experience with the dealer here in Colorado I became a little skeptical. WM

barrymclark Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I got my 575 through Wolfe Guitars in Jupiter FL. Great service. If I was buying new, I wouldn't hesitate to go through them again. I have an Eagle Classic Mahogany. That clean look... I just can't stop looking at it.

peterbright Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Welcome and I've had great luck through Wolfe and they offer discounts to HOC members.
Gitfiddler Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I never get tired of looking at Keith's "JS" spec Custom Eagle.
big bob Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 This one looks quite nice http://www.gbase.com/gear/the-heritage-eagle-classic-1990-sunburst
SouthpawGuy Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 This came from Wolfe's Nice ! Details ? Spruce top with ebony board ?
whiskeymike Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 This came from Wolfe's Are you kidding me??? I've been looking at pictures of these guitars for weeks and this is definitely at the top of the list. Gorgeous!
whiskeymike Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 I only want one neck pickup on this guitar, what are your opinions on floater vs set? If I go with a set pickup, how much difference does the bracing pattern make? What about tone/volume controls on the pick guard vs by the f-hole? I've done a lot of reading on this site and others, but I have very little experience actually playing arch tops. Thanks! WM
Gitfiddler Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 I'd recommend you call Heritage and be sure you get the best info on this build. Bu since you've asked nicely, I'll offer some food for thought...If it were my custom build I'd go for 'X' bracing for the top, with a set-in pickup (to better resist feedback). Vol/Tone on the pickguard will have less of an impact on the acoustic properties, but having them mounted on the top never seemed to bother Wes Montgomery.
whiskeymike Posted March 25, 2014 Author Posted March 25, 2014 This one looks quite nice http://www.gbase.com/gear/the-heritage-eagle-classic-1990-sunburst Bob, Thanks, that's close to what I had in mind. The sunburst on this one is just a little too dark.

That's actually the configuration I had in mind but I wasn't sure how much the controls on the body would have on the acoustics.
Keith7940236 Posted March 25, 2014 Posted March 25, 2014 Nice ! Details ? Spruce top with ebony board ? Thanks SPG! It's Spruce with an ebony board, guard and tailpiece.
whiskeymike Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Since we're showing photos Nice! That's an Eagle right? I would love to see as many of these as possible. I'm starting to narrow it down, but I'm on the fence with a couple of different finishes.
H Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 You want more pics? Here's my all mahogany Eagle from 1991.
Keith7940236 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Mahogany Eagles are by far the most under rated Heritage Guitars. They are simply wonderful and very clear sounding.
