djpogoff Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Hello -- this is my first post. I've been looking for a semi-hollow guitar; I play blues nearly exclusively. I've found a used Prospect and am wondering what characterizes this model, especially as it may differ from Heritage's other semi-hollow models. Is the Prospect particularly suited -- or not -- to playing blues? Also, what's the difference between the floating center block and the usual kind of center block found in most semi-hollows? Thanks for any advice. David
Keith7940236 Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 I think that you will find that the Prospect will do everything that other Heritage semi hollows will do, just in a more comfortable package. Around here, the Prospect is a very comfortable guitar. The difference between the two blocks is that the floating is attached to the sound board and "floats" a little above the back of the guitar. The other is attached at the soundboard and the back.
SouthpawGuy Posted March 29, 2014 Posted March 29, 2014 Hi, the Prospect comes standard with a floating centre block, meaning the block doesn't make contact with the back of the guitar. This allows the guitar to vibrate more freely, making it sound a little more like a fully hollow bodied instrument, but it can also make the instrument more prone to feedback. The 535 model has solid centre block where the block does make contact with the back of the guitar allowing for more volume and gain before feedback sets in. That's the theory any way. I have both a Prospect and a 535, but the pickups are different, unpotted Seth Lovers in the Prospect and potted '59s in the 535. The Prospect does sound more like a hollow body guitar and it's smaller size makes it very comfortable. btw the Prospect is also available in a solid block or full hollow version.
tulk1 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Well, there was a version of the Prospect once called the Blues Deluxe. Hmmmm ...... David, it's a wonderful guitar. Absolutely no reason that it shouldn't fit a blues regimen.
schundog Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 They are excellent guitars. I don't see how you could go wrong, especially for the Blues. Good luck!
1964mgb Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Hi everyone, I'm new to the club and pleased to be here! I own a Gretsch DuoJet and PRS 408 and I'm very interested in a Prospect. I love the looks and sounds of the Prospect that I've seen online. Was considering a G 339 and the Prospect looks even better to me! A couple of questions...and may be this will apply to all Heritage models? What is the shape of the neck, the size of the nut, and the radius of the fretboard? Thanks for all your help!
eljay Posted August 27, 2014 Posted August 27, 2014 Hi, mgb. (Kool car, btw) I own a prospect and I believe that since the necks are hand made, they can be had in a variety of shapes. Others, more knowledgeable than I, will provide more information, I'm sure. As info, my prospect's neck seems like a medium, my 157 has a thin neck, while the 357 feels like a baseball bat.
