Alex94706 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 Hi all -- I acquired a 1987 Stat ASB a few months ago off eBay, which has lately been the main guitar in my rotation (though still getting used to the mini-toggles for pickup switching mid-song :-).) The guitar didn't come with a hardshell case, and the original Heritage hardshell cases are impossible to find. I've tried a molded Fender case and a standard TKL case for Fenders, and had problems fitting it in both: the Stat was too long for the Fender case; and the headstock angle meant it was not well supported in the TKL (tip of the headstock rested against the bottom of the case, which is just asking for breakage). Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket hardshell case for this slightly unusually-shaped model, or am I going to have to get one custom-made?
DavesNotHere Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 Congratulations on the new acquisition and welcome! If you can't find a STAT case look for a H-160 or H-162 case. Sorry, I guess that's an inside joke. They are more rare than STATs, but they are the same case. I picked up a Heritage Parsons Street model a few years ago without a case, and it took me a while to find one that fit. I'm not certain if the STAT would fit. My local vintage guitar guy called me every time he ran across a Super Strat case and after a few months we finally found an Ibanez case that fit. It only cost me $50, so I guess I'm really no help But, this is the case I found. Before After FredZepp has this one now.
Keith7940236 Posted April 12, 2014 Posted April 12, 2014 When I put my VIP together I had a similar problem. The best fit that i could find was a "Gator Extra Long Electric Guitar Case". It still wasn't perfect as the tilt back headstock rested a on the case floor instead of above it, but it was the best that I could find.
Doc3 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 Have you contacted the Heritage to see if they make them. I bought an acoustic without a case and they will send me a new replacement case one for $200.00.
Gitfiddler Posted April 20, 2014 Posted April 20, 2014 I have an extra long rectangular case that is 'universal fit'. (As long as you put additional padding in it). It's in very good condition. The case is light brown faux reptile finish and available for $50 plus ship/Paypal. If interested, I'll dig it out from storage, measure it, and take some pics. Tim
Alex94706 Posted August 2, 2014 Author Posted August 2, 2014 Update: I have found that the Road Runner molded rectangular electric guitar case is a pretty good fit: there's a neck support which holds the neck enough so that the headstock just touches the back: I have added a thin layer of padding to the neck support to keep the headstock away from the back of the case and it works fine.
