602a Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Anyone own some of the older 150's? If so has the guitar changed over the years as far as sound with the wood aging with time?
bolero Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I do...but I'm not sure if I could tell I will say, they sound good!!
dbetts41 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I was reading an article on Greg Martin (ky headhunters) & he felt that it took about 10+ years for the finish to "set" on his gibson reissues & they started to sound better at that point... he has a pretty good set of ears so I would probably say age does help...
tulk1 Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 My nephew has a mid-90s H150. Aside from the thin neck, it's a great guitar. Sounds wonderful (i was going to say "awesome", but I heard people hate that term) Not sure it sounds any better than a newer one, tho'.
FredZepp Posted April 16, 2014 Posted April 16, 2014 I've got H-150's from 1988, 1992, and 2000 and a H157 from 1994 and a H-140 from 1989. I like the ones with a few miles on them obviously. But with different pickups, hardware , neck shapes, etc, they all have their own personality. I like the 60's neck on the '92 and '94 models ... the 140 neck is rather chunky and the '88 H-150 is really chunky. It's not an issue for me , I like them all. There are so many variables that make them what they are, from the wood to hardware/ pickups, that it is hard to say what effect the age has had on them. I'd expect any of them to be great from day one really.
602a Posted April 16, 2014 Author Posted April 16, 2014 Good looking there Fred. Looking at a older one with a smaller neck.
mtpatty Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 not technically a response to the question posed, but I like my '99 (the black one) better than the 2005 (OSB)...
