Beagle216 Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I have one of the LR Baggs Venue DI's on the way to me. My Sweetwater sales rep I always deal with gave me a great deal. I am hoping it will be a good mate for my Lyric acoustic mic and Fishman SA220. I looked at several other options before deciding to go with the Venue. At the end of the day it was the preamp/ DI that had the least amount of compromises in terms of the features I was looking for. I am excited to have the notch filter to control the feedback and the sweepable mids. I am also happy that I will be able to leave the presence control on the Lyric more neutral to reduce the handling noise.
GASguy Posted April 18, 2014 Posted April 18, 2014 I look forward to your report, for the longest time I have been trying to decide between the LR Baggs Paracoustic DI and the Venue DI. I wouldn't be using them with every single one of my acoustic instruments, i.e. guitar, Uke and eventually mandolin family, but some of my instruments have passive or non-balanced outputs that I would like to have a good DI to use with.
rockabilly69 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I've heard the Venue is specifically good with the Lyric, which in my opinion is the hardest good pickup to EQ of any I've used. I did a week of 4 hour gigs with the Lyric, and I finally found a way to get it to sound good. There are a few frequencies that have to be specifically notched to make the Lyric shine. I didn't use the Venue though, I used a Dtar Equinox, which frankly is the most surgically precise EQ I've used outside of the full rack parametrics. I know exactly what you mean about the handling noise of the Lyric, I fought that all week! It's not bad at house level but when things got loud it became quite apparent!

I was looking at the equinox... I trust your opinions a lot. You are making me second guess my choice. =) I was also looking at the pz pre and the solstice. At the end of the day, based on what felt like millions of reviews, and the fact that I read one specifically about the lyric in a live band setting that said it was an awesome combo, because of the really powerful EQ and notch filter on tap, I pulled the trigger. Said he was right in front of two loud stage wedges with a drummer and electric guitar and a bass player and he was totally fine. His sound man had the house board flat, all the EQ needed came from the Venue. I really like the lyric pickup a lot, it is definately the best acoustic tone I have achieved to date, it was just lacking something without the external EQ. Any idea of the frequencies, or better yet, knob settings on my venue? Or does it really have to do with the amp also.
rockabilly69 Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 I think the Venue is powerful enough to take care of the Lyric, no need to second guess, and it's got a nice layout for stage. I bought the Equinox to go with a Sostice, and I got a pro deal on them so that worked for me! Together they rule, but that's a big expense!!!
