slider313
I recently picked this amp up from a friend in NY. He used it for harp but with a speaker change (4 ohm Weber Silver Ten) and a couple of choice low current draw 6V6's (Tung Sol) it turns out to be a great little guitar amp. The model # A-850 and chassis #195-5-3 is quite rare. Most of these amps came with lap steels and are usually single ended, with one 6V6, for about 5 watts. This one has a pair of 6V6's, a 5Y3 rectifier, a 6SJ7 input tube and a 6SN7 phase inverter, for a whopping 10 watts! I changed out the speaker because I didn't want to blow the original. I believe the grillcloth was replaced. The tone is very old school with the 6SJ7 pentode preamp tube; crunchy and warm. You can dime the volume and back off the guitars' volume to clean it up. It actually has some nice chime with the volume rolled down and thickens up when turning it up. This amp could be used without a pedal for a blues gig.......with the right drummer. The speaker in the photo is the original.

ScottNaylor
Seriously cool! Some of the design elements seem to share a lineage with various Swart models. Time for an Esquire with a lap steel pickup?😊

Gitfiddler
Those old vintage amps were so pure and simple designs. Great score!!
