schundog Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 In December, the 14 year old made a deal with me to take some pictures of guitars once it got nice if I gave her some money for Christmas presents. Today it was time to pay up... I should have had her use my old Kodak Easyshare, but I had her use my wife's DSLR. She and I had some fun on this beautiful day hanging out together. Anyway, here are some pics of the 1989 535 I recently got from DC Ron for a great price. It's an ebony board with Seth Lovers, set up great.
gpuma Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Cool pics Brian! And of course the subject of the pictures if nothing short of amazing. Happy NHGD, those are the best!
Gitfiddler Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Brian, your daughter took those photos?! Those are beautifully done and artfully conceived! And the 535 is stunning. Ron is a class act, and he's passed on an amazing instrument to another classy dude. Play it in good health.
skydog52 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Didn't know Abe played! Nice catch Brian one of my favorite finishes. Enjoy
LK155 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Nice guitar. Nicer pix. But you really need to hydrate a bit. You're looking pretty dry. Getting too much sun maybe?
bsck1 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Wow, wow, wow! Kudos to your daughter and congratulations to you on a fine acquisition. I've become more and more enamoured with the 555 style headstock. It is so simply elegant. Enjoy!
TalismanRich Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Wow, she's got a good eye, Brian. You've got a budding photographer on your hands.
GASguy Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 That is an extremely nice 535, the ebony board and headstock upgrades are great specs for that guitar. Nice flame and grain in the top as well. Congratulations and enjoy.
schundog Posted May 11, 2014 Author Posted May 11, 2014 Thanks for the comments, everyone! It's a great guitar. While it has some bumps and bruises that DC Ron fully disclosed, I couldn't be happier with it's condition considering it is, as of this year, a "Vintage" guitar. That sounds funny calling anything from the 80s Vintage, doesn't it?! Lyle, you can't swing a dead cat in Central Illinois without hitting something related to Abe Lincoln. Illinois' slogan is "The Land Of Lincoln," Lincoln, IL, is 30 miles south, Lincoln swung through here often in his lawyer days, working the judicial circuit, and his home, tomb, and Presidential Library are all 60 miles south in Springfield, IL. There is a beautiful home here in Bloomington, the David Davis Mansion. David Davis was a judge that was helpful in getting Lincoln to run for President, and a longtime friend. Lincoln later appointed Davis to the US Supreme Court. Anyway, a couple years ago, they put this statue of Lincoln lounging on a park bench outside the old courthouse. Us Cooters down here in Corn Country get a kick out of it, and poor Abe has been subjected to many (probably many improper, as it's located a block away from many of the college bars) pictures in it's time here. This setting was actually MY idea, and I had to take the pics, as Abby refused to get out of the car and do it. She actually called me a Nerd. SHEESH! haha. I'll do another thread about our picture day; we took a couple other guitars with us and did some pics in different settings. I took this pic of the photographer, and caught her still winking as she looked up from the viewfinder, haha. Since she'd kill me for posting that pic, I'll also post the one of her in her band dress, right before their spring concert last week. She's a sweetie. Keeping my shotgun handy, haha. g
bsck1 Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 You don't only need to keep that shotgun handy, but highly visible as an inevitable parade of suitors will be knocking at your door. What a beautiful young lady. You're a very lucky dad!
PunkKitty Posted May 11, 2014 Posted May 11, 2014 Beautiful guitar, Brian. Your daughter does nice work.
DC Ron Posted May 12, 2014 Posted May 12, 2014 Brian, so glad you are enjoying the guitar. Great post, great photos and a VERY talented daughter. All the best...
