V23505 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Hi All Been a member/lurker for years and have been out of the Heritage fold selling my old H157 in 2010 I've tried several times to buy it back from my cousin but it won't be coming back to me anytime soon. I decided this year was as good a year as any to realise an ambition I've had for a while - to custom order a Heritage guitar. I've been through several G-words in the meantime ('57 Goldtop RI, '57 Custom RI (both sold), SG Classic and Firebird VII (both keepers)) and I can say that the G-word LP types never quite got me going the way that old H157 did. The nut on that H157 wasn't great, the binding had small cracks, it weighed 11-12lbs... and nothing else sounded or felt quite as good to me! Instead of ordering an H157 (which I will probably do in the future anyway), I've decided to go for a mini-humbucker version of the H150 (I'm a big Thin Lizzy fan, so that has informed the decision somewhat!). Ordered it from Wolfe's in late April and the specs are as follows: Heritage H150CM Mini Humbucker: Tobacco Burst Top, natural finish back and sides 1 piece mahogany back and neck - target weight 9-9.5lbs Slightly thicker than standard neck carve MOP inlaid headstock logo Bone Nut Tone Pros TPK33 Kluson-style tuners Tone Pros AVR-II Bridge & lightweight aluminium tail piece Gold speed knobs, amber switch tip, cream "poker chip" rhythm/treble surround CTS pots, Sprague caps, 50s wiring Lollar mini humbuckers Very much enjoy seeing the updates here, and particularly the photos of PSP, which I hope to make it to some day.
chico Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Congrats and keep us posted during the birthing process <g>
V23505 Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 Thanks man, will do. Excited just about describes the feeling!
big bob Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I have a 170 with lollar mini buckers and can assure you that they will not disappoint.
tulk1 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Great specs!! The H150 w/mini's was originally spec'd and prototyped by Graham at Wolfe Guitars. I got to play both the prototype and first production model. The mini's ... = a wow factor of "oh yeah"!! (very scientific method applied to figure that out, so ... ). Tobacco Burst I assume is Old Style Burst, which is my fav Heritage color. It just oozes class. Think you've spec'd out a wonderful guitar. Did you get a build time quote?
rockabilly69 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 sounds like the guitar will fit you like a glove!
Redsand Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Enjoy the process, I'm not sure the experience I've had so far could be duplicated anywhere else on the planet! The guys and gals at Heritage are the real deal!
Vanschoyck Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Sounds like you did it up right. Now for the anticipation . . .
Gitfiddler Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 Congratulations on your custom order!! We know how excited you are...and how anxious you will be as time goes by ever so slowly until delivery.\ See if you can get photos at the factory during the build. That would be very cool.
bsck1 Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 How special. It is a great experience to compose your own work of art. Looking forwrd to your progress reports. It certainly sounds like it will be beautiful in every respect. Congratulations.
skydog52 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Sounds like a real winner. Love the specs on this one. Congrats!
ScottNaylor Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 What great choices on the specs! Congrats and may the wait go quickly and painlessly.
Spectrum13 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Just curious which dealer you used? His post said Wolfe. Another goldie lox build. A 150 with a little 157 bling. Not unlike when Kuz wanted a 555 with a rosewood board. Great choice of options.
V23505 Posted May 14, 2014 Author Posted May 14, 2014 Thanks for the epic re-welcome guys, and for all the encouraging comments, this is truly a great community. I'm psyched about the build, to put it mildly - if the time has to be taken to get it right, I've no problem with that at all but there's no getting around it, skydog52, you hit the nail on the head: the waiting is the hardest part (great version, btw)! I'm based in Dublin, Ireland so progress pics will probably be difficult to come by, but that's ok - adds to the anticipation! Incidentally I was in a great vintage shop we have here in Dublin the other week and sat down with a '76 Les Paul Deluxe. Maple neck, goldtop, 1 pc mahogany body, 3 pc top, weight around 9-10 lbs. and that thing sang. Can only imagine that mine is going to be even better! Now to plot a possibly next build: an (if possible) all-mahogany 3-pickup H157...
