Cajun Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I recently acquired a 535 with Seth Lovers. I am more of a bridge pickup guy than neck (classic rock, blues, like a bite sound like Billy Gibbons). I see a lot of opinions for bridge height - would like your educated opinions. Sure I can move it up and down and try all different positions, but like to see what everyone says and reasoning. Appreciate it in advance. I play more lead guitar than chords. I will adjust the neck height after to try and get the same gain for balance. Tips and tricks appreciated.
PunkKitty Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I use the Bill Lawrence method. It's explained in detail here. http://www.billlawrence.com/Pages/Pickupology/Introduction.htm
HANGAR18 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I usually hold each of the E strings down at the last fret and then measure 1/8th inch between the underside of the strings and the top of the pickup. That is about as high as I think you can get it. From there you can lower it for less punch in the face.
Kuz Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 my default setting for PAF style pups is (WITHOUT fretting the strings) measured from the cover (not on the pole piece) 7/64 for Low E (from the cover to bottom of Low E) and 6-6.5/64 for high E (measured the same way).
ScottNaylor Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Just measured mine ('09 535 with Seth's) and they are set up exactly like Kuz described above. The only added tweak to his method is I adjust the pole pieces to even out string-to-string balance a bit. On the bridge pickup, I lower the poles to compensate, on the neck I raise the offending parties.
