535 Strings

What strings do you like on the 535? I've been using D Addario XL's on my Tele's. Thought I'd try and get a consenses.

I don't own a 535 but I do have a Prospect. I use the very fine brand called "whatever is on sale".

Seriously, I'm not picky about strings. Any of the major brands will do.

Same here, usually wind up with EB Slinkys or D'Addario XL's. All work the same for me, but then again I'm quite the lousy player. :D

Ddarrios for me, I am starting to prefer .11s to .10s, and really like the Chrome model. Half-rounds. No string squeak.

I use D Addario XL's on mine, and most of my other guitars too. 10's 11's and 12's. I currently have 11's on my 535.

Curt Mangan 10s nickel plated on all my solid bodies and my semi-hollow guitars. Great strings that sound full & round but not flat & dead. Cost is same or less than Ds.

D'Addario 110 XLs most of the time, although I have used the DR strings occasionally. I have a DeArmond Starfire IV that I like using the 110 XLWs with the wound G string. Seems to work well on that guitar.

Thanks for all of the imput. The XL's have so far been good to me on the other guitars. But I like to know what others think.

Royst:

Strings are an individual taste, of course. I have tried several brands and several different materials for strings on my 535's and 335's and seem to come back to either Pure Nickel Strings (DR Pure Blues) or good old D'Addario EXL-110's in Nickel Steel.

However, having said that I now have the new set of D'Addario (black package) NYXL strings on my 335 and they are pretty exciting. Less squeek than regular round wounds, they feel smoother and faster for some reason. Almost like a coated string, though they are not coated at all. So far, so good with the new NYXL. Wish they weren't so costly. About 3X of the regular EXL-110's.

Over the years I have tried and liked the Pure Blues and Snake Oil Brand pure nickel strings. And, the D'Addario EXL-110's and the Dean Markley Signature Nickel Steel Strings, though they feel a bit stiffer.

Season to your own taste, of course.

Take care.

Consensus seems to lean towards nickel strings.

GHS nickel rockers for me on my Heritages.

GHS are for me too. Nickels. 10s. That's what they put on em at the factory, after Ren douses them with a nice hit of WD40

I use either D'Addario .10s or Carvin .10s, which are I believe just GHS boomers. But cheaper.

Carvin bass strings are made by la bella, and are pretty much the same as the nickel plated steel, but cheaper. I use them on all of my carvin basses. I don't use them on my EBMM basses because the taper core strings do not get along with the bridges on EBMM basses.

On my 535 I use Ernie Ball Super Slinkys nickle. 10-46. You can get them at GC for about $4 a pack. They seem to have a good sound and last a while.....

After being introduced to them by the guy I bought my strat from, Pyramid nickel classic's strings are incredible. 'Hand wound' Round core stings, incredible tone, but I began to struggle getting hold of them, and when I did I got an odd crappy set in the batch. So I decided to try our DR strings and I've loved them, I use pure blues 11's like a few of the other guys here have recommended. Also got on well with the Tite-fit ones too on humbucker guitars. Last a long time too
I'm very particular about strings and now DR are my go to brand :-)

IIRC the 10-46's are Regular Slinky, the 9-42's are the Super Slinky's.

On all my electrics I use Ernie Ball - Super Slinky 9-42's.

DRs Pure Blues are good strings, but I only bought a couple sets before getting one with a bad string. Switched back to GHS nickel rockers.

Thomastik Infeld 11-52.

The "G" is wound (which I strongly prefer). Tone is great. A little more expensive compared to E.B., D'Addario and other more common brands, but they stay in tune and intonate far far better than anything I've tried in my 40+ years of playing. Have them on all of my solid body and semi hollow body guitars. Have used them for years now... won't use anything else.

Lately, I've been using Kerly Kues, 11-52, on my semi-hollow body, and 10-46 on my solid. I really like them and they seem to last a long time.
