Stringman Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Wow, great guitar. I like everything about it, but would find the weight a bit much at my age and with a bad back. Now if that was 7 pounds, we'd be 100%. Congratulations.
smaj Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 Very nice guitar PK, I would leave the Schaller hardware on it, it is very good stuff.
yuominae Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 Beautiful, just beautiful. So you guys both ngd'd guitars with stunning tops. Sounds like everybody won
bolero Posted June 26, 2014 Posted June 26, 2014 wow lots of new gtrs here lately...that is a sweet H150! happy new gtr day!
PunkKitty Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 I just finished swapping pickups in this 150. I have a bunch of random Gibson pickups. Burstbuckers, 57 Classic +, 490's, etc. A lot of them don't have matching covers. I took a Burstbucker 1 for the neck and a 57 Classic+ for the bridge, replaced the magnets with alnico 4, and removed the covers. It's interesting because most of the original PAF's used alnico 4. I ended up with a thick tone with a lot of articulation. The neck pickup isn't muddy. Both pickups distort well. I think I'll leave it this way for a while.
PunkKitty Posted June 27, 2014 Author Posted June 27, 2014 It's the same as the old look but the rear pickup is black.
thorn Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 It's the same as the old look but the rear pickup is black. Which one is rear? Sounds like a good combination and a beautiful guitar. Congrats. Oh yeah, have to ask, are the pots original?
PunkKitty Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Yes. The electronics are original. I may build a new wiring harness with PIO caps for it sometime in the future. But that's not a priority since everything works as it should.
thorn Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Yes. The electronics are original. I may build a new wiring harness with PIO caps for it sometime in the future. But that's not a priority since everything works as it should. I'll have to look up the PIO caps. At one point I was very interested in the components and did quite a bit of swapping. Then I discovered that I couldn't play well enough to tell which was a better choice. So I stopped swapping and for the last few years I've been concentrating on learning to play. But, I still don't know which PU is the black one. I honestly don't know which one is rear if you could clarify for me. I'm assuming you mean the neck since I've never heard the bridge PU called the forward but then WDIK.
PunkKitty Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 This should help. I'm thinking of changing the magnets to Alnico 5 to get some more articulation out of them. I haven't picked up another guitar since I've gotten this. It's really, really nice. Since I wanted more articulation out of the pickups, I decided to try a set of Fralin P92's that I had on the shelf. I think this was a very good move.

I haven't picked up another guitar since I've gotten this. It's really, really nice. That last statement says it all. I haven't picked up another guitar since May 10. I'm talking about my H 110. I did pick up a Melancon for an hour or so the other night and enjoyed it. So the honeymoon may be over and may have to let some of my other girls join in now for a bit. As to "rear" PU. I would not have guessed you meant the bridge. I suppose that can also be called the back PU? Thanks for the picture. Worth a thousand words.
slider313 Posted June 29, 2014 Posted June 29, 2014 Measure the volume pots with an ohm meter to be sure they're 500K.
