Got the 535 I bought on ebay today. It is definitely a little more reliced than I thought. But that's ok. It's an 04 model and I guess it was professionally used. Picked it up for 7 bills, I think it was a bargin. I do have one question. This is the first guitar I have owned that has controls for each pick up. When the switch is inthe middle position do you have control with all knobs?

I'll let some else expound on the controls.

Congrats, that is a helluva deal..

Pickup selector.

When the toggle is in the middle both pickups are on. The knobs still control their respective pickup vol/tone. Blend them as you hear fit.

There's definitely something wrong with the electronics. The pots work only when the switch is on the pick up designated. Middle position the volume is controlled by the neck pick up only and the bridge controls are dead. I'm bringing it to a luthier in New Orleans tomorrow. I'll post the diagnosis.

Thanks for your help

And that, if I may, is the beauty (or PIA) of these dual controls..blending.

I come from more of a single-coil world.

You got that for $700? If so... man... I'd say that was QUITE a deal. :)

not if it needs a neck reset

That's the one. The action is a little high. I sent the pictures of it to the luthier before I bought it and he said everything is fixable. I'm wondering about the electronics now. I don't think the guy was forthright. We'll see how good of a deal it was.

Yeah, it probably just needs some attention by an experienced luthier. Seller said that it's had a pro neck reset , so hopefully a little tweaking will get it back in shape.

Electronics should be fairly inexpensive to fix... some wiring, maybe a new switch.

The pickup thing should be an easy fix. It might not need a neck reset but possible a partial refret and sanding of the fretboard.

A good luthier will be able to make the call. I say it was a good deal!

You'd be surprised how many people, even pros, don't really know how to set up a guitar. They can't get it right, so it must need a neck reset.

Anyway, it does look great. Hopefully your guitar tech can get it up to speed.

As for the hardware, if it's nickel, I would just polish it a bit but let it age. It's a never ending battle with nickel. With chrome., things are easier.

I would definitely get some Gibson Pump Polish and clean the whole guitar. I have found that it works the best for all my nitro finished guitars. It's got no abrasives, just a spray. It seems to be pretty good at making nitro look nice.

Good News, I dropped off the guitar this morning, the luthier will reset the neck, dress the frets, install a bone nut and fix the pots. $183.00. I'm elated, this guy does awesome work.

I like the patina, makes you wonder just where this guitar been. I'm getting to where I look worn out too!

So $883...great deal. I wonder what kind of "reset" he'll be doing. Hard to believe that he could do an actual reset and all that other stuff for that price...maybe a "truss rod reset calibration" ha ha. I've never heard of a Heritage needing a neck reset.

Congrats to the op

He will pull the neck. He actually showed me what glue he would use, some sort of hide glue. Told me that's what should be on it now.

I have before pics will post them plus the finished product. Anyway like you said $883 ain't a bad deal. Now I can save for the H150!

Yes, congrats!

Actually, there was a 555 for sale in Japan once (for about 900usd) that had apparently come from the factory with the neck set so there was a small gap between the neck and the body.

The seller said that Heritage fixed it though, but he still only got his minimum price for it.

Cheapest deal on a 535 I ever heard of and your tech is also very reasonable price wise. Congrats again.

It's been about two months since I got the 535 and it is the guitar I pick up 99% of the time now. I love the tones that eke out of this thing. The action and neck are the most comfortable of all my guitars. My poor telecasters are getting no love these days.

Glad to hear that you're bonding. The 535 is one of the best all around guitars they make.
