Have you tried the BBE Tube Screamer, and if so, how does this compare?

That bad? I have one, BBE gave it to me for being LR on the GBLF once upon a time. I don't mind it, but I generally only kick it in when I want a bunch of distortion to cover my sloppy playing so I don't have to work at clean fretting. Not having any other distortion pedals, I've nothing to compare it to.

This was actually my first pedal I have ever bought and it's awesome! I've been tinkering with it a lot more lately to find some sweet tones. I have found it's easier to get dirtier and crunchier tones from humbuckers vs. single coils but I'm still relatively new to this pedal and guitars in general.

I bought one after jamming with a guy who used the regular BB pedal with his Les Paul through a Blues jr. amp. It sounded fantastic

The BBE didn't sound fantastic to me. But then, that was probably me. Got mine from the same place, Dixie. Pretty sure, anyway.

Thanks! I've been doing plenty of reading but not much posting. Plenty of great people and info it seems here

I have never tried the BBE tube screamer- But I have had many different boutique overdrive, distortion pedals on my board over the years and sometimes multiple drive pedals at once to get the different levels of gain needed when covering many styles on a given night. With the two channels and the versatility of each channel,

the BB Plus allows me to have just one drive pedal on the board. I use channel B as a clean boost with light compression ( each channel has compression with a switch to select hard or soft compression) and channel A is set at a higher gain. You can also run both together ,and choose the order- A into B, or B into A. The H150 with 59's running through this pedal into an all tube amp( Swart AST) is the best rig Ive ever had.

The original Xotic BB was one of the few pedals I regret selling, My favorite OD of all time is still the Barber Direct Drive, nothing has been able to replace it for class A amp playing. I've tried about 30 or so OD's that I bought and built about 20 or so others copied from "boutique" circuits, the Barber Direct Drive, Fulltone OCD, and Xotic BB are the top 3 I've ever tried to my ears, the Barber LTD is good too but just lies somewhere in between those 3. There are only so many ways to clip a signal, so a lot of stuff sounds similar, it's the guys that take the effort to really tune their builds, often in very simple ways, that stand out.

Sorry for the hijack of the OP, but I have the BBE Green Screamer on my board, right next to MY favorite pedal, the Fulltone OCD. The BBE has a smoother, less in-your-face bite than the OCD. A great poor-man's OCD, to me, would be the Boss Blues Driver. VERY similar characteristics, but the OCD has better definition.
