koula901 Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Can I just say it, I LOVE my new pedal, just picked it up yesterday for a small pedalboard that I'm building for a quick grab 'n' go board. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for a crunch box, but I don't think this pedal really needs my recommendation as it's known far and wide, what a great pedal it is.
Hfan Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Glad you like it Koula. I like mine too. Like most of my gear, I got it used on CL. It was a V4. Sounded ok to me but then I kept reading about the V4 being the least loved version...supposedly too "fizzy" (obviously FWIW). I assumed that meant fuzzy like an old fuzz box. In some positions (power of suggestion maybe) it did kinda do that. I really didn't want a fuzz like effect. Read about the version 3.5 mod which entails clipping out one tiny diode and bridging the two connection points. Went for it and holy cow, I liked it better..less fizzy / fuzzy, more of a clearer od if that makes sense. Took about 2 minutes to do it. Then came a Timmy and a Mythical Overdrive which are what I use now when not playing right into the amp with a little verb. Need to break out the OCD again one day.

Does that mean it's an old version. I haven't heard any fizziness at all and I've cranked it through the FB Jr.

Hfan Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I have one, I think it's a V4. I like it But you can't like it, that goes against internet consensus ha ha. If you like it that's great. I read a few things and after having a few beers one night I went for it. I only paid $50 for it so that was a factor too..not super worried. I liked it better right away. FWIW, here's one link, there are others http://www.ultimate-guitar.com/columns/gear_maintenance/free_easy_mod_for_the_v4_ocd.html Here's another, may be impossible to wade through it. http://www.gearslutz.com/board/so-many-guitars-so-little-time/581668-anyone-get-pissed-off-fulltone-i-did.html
koula901 Posted August 10, 2014 Author Posted August 10, 2014 Now I'm wondering if I should take it back an exchange it for a more updated one. Anyone know if v4 is the latest? I'd like to know the differences between the versions. It seems the higher versions are more gainey.

I tried one a few years ago and didn't care for it much. Don't remember which version it was. Currently, I dig the Wampler Ecstasy (now called the Euphoria). Who knows perhaps I'd like one of the other versions of the OCD.
koula901 Posted August 11, 2014 Author Posted August 11, 2014 I just pulled the trigger on the TSDX Turbo Screamer, been wanting one for a long time, may put this one on the big board.
smokedtires Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 Had one when I had a Blues Jr, worked great with that amp. Enjoy!
Hfan Posted August 13, 2014 Posted August 13, 2014 I had one of these back around when I got my newly introduced Pignose and my $300 59 Strat fizzy heaven
hinesarchtop Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 I like my OCD. It works really well with the Analogman Astrotone fuzz.

hinesarchtop Posted August 16, 2014 Posted August 16, 2014 Which version do you have? I'm not sure...It has volume, drive, tone and the hp/lp micro switch. Serial # 04099
RJLII Posted August 23, 2014 Posted August 23, 2014 I had a V4 that Brent wound up buying during one of my pedal purges. I agree it made for a good gain/overdrive box. The only fault I could find is that I couldn't turn it down enough. More of a personal problem than a shortcoming with the pedal. I like a low gain, edge of breakup sound and the OCD just wasn't suited to that.

peterbright Posted August 24, 2014 Posted August 24, 2014 I liked the latest version the least even at 18 volts.

Or get a cheap v4 and clip the diode in the mod and wind up with a 3.5. Really there are so many versions of each V# it is murky. For my OD needs I'm now happy with my Timmy and or my Mythical Overdrive.

tbp0701 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I really like my OCD as well. This may be sacrilege, but I have a 5F1-based amp with only a volume knob. I've found the OCD comes in handy for home practice as kind of a master volume (and tone if needed).

Good to know it's a desirable version. All I know is that it's pretty transparent, and works well in conjunction with the fuzz pedal I mentioned earlier.
